Trivia[edit]

I don't think the part about them being related to Bumpties is needed... Mr. Guy the GuyPickle.png...E

The Adventures of SMB3[edit]

Shouldn't this be under a different section?

Sub-/Related Species[edit]

What exactly is the logic behind which penguin enemies are listed as "sub-species" and which ones are "related species"? Why is Cooligan, for instance, a sub-species of penguin while Pendril is merely related? Is a Pendril somehow less of a penguin than a Cooligan? I'm confused :|--vellidragon 17:07, 26 April 2010 (EDT)

FourPaperHeroes has been adding speculative related species to speculative articles, like Penguin and Dragon. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
None of them is confirmed to be a sub-species. Should any penguin-like species really be included under "related species"? But anyway, isn't "related species" based on personal opinion? I could say that anything that resembles an octopus or squid is related to Blooper just because of their appearance. Do I have proof? No. --Grandy02 20:01, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

The information of non-SM64-codified penguins was randomly removed seemingly without proposal back in 2014. Since then, we have expanded the previously-arbitrarily-limited scope on various other articles, such as Peach's Castle, while the generic subjects policy is being whittled down (see fish and tree, for example). I think the original full scope should be restored, since just because a consistent design hadn't been established yet doesn't make those any less penguins than the ones in Galaxy or Odyssey (which themselves are quite different from one another). I agree. Mario-ified or not, pinguini è pinguini. Let's have Pinball back too. LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:01, March 30, 2025 (EDT)
My best guess is that it's like stuff like worm. Most of the penguin appearances are generic and don't really have anything to do with gameplay. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 12:52, March 31, 2025 (EDT)
I get the idea, and would not be opposed to coverage of other penguins in some way, but I think the 64 penguin design is enough of an established and recurring element in the franchise that it warrants its own space. --Waluigi's head icon in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I think this article is best just covering the Mario penguins. Perhaps penguins as a generic animal could be covered elsewhere, but this is a very specific and recurring design in the Mario franchise and I personally would not want to see it diluted. - Nintendo101 (talk) 18:14, March 31, 2025 (EDT)
Considering how different the Odyssey ones were, I don't see this as any different a situation than rabbit. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:21, March 31, 2025 (EDT)
I do not think this is the same situation because the Odyssey penguin was designed with the ones from Super Mario 64 and other games in mind, which we can assess just by looking at it, as well as from the developer's comments on its design in The Art of Super Mario Odyssey. Rabbits are in a different situation in my view. They are typically unified by their gameplay function in a way that penguins are not, or at least not as often. - Nintendo101 (talk) 21:55, March 31, 2025 (EDT)
