Official Name[edit]

Also, according to Wikipedia Japan their name is タコヘイ (Takohei), unless I'm mixing the descriptions up. Vent 14:54, 28 May 2012 (EDT)
It be a etymology of Octoomba and guy.
Shy Guy?[edit]
Their japanese name is Takohei which simply means Octopus Soldier, but it could also be a portmanteau of Octopus (Tako) and Shy Guy (Heiho). The english translators also seemed to notice this and therefore named the enemy Octoguy.

- That's just a listing of Shy Guy's names. I mean, can we be sure that "hei" and "guy" similarities aren't spurious connections? Even in the link you gave me, there's a mention of "foot soldier". So far, I'm seeing spurious connections. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 19:22, 7 November 2018 (EST)

- There are other "hei" enemies in the series such as Bob-omb, Terrapin, Spikey, Clubba, Undergrunt, Prongo, Walleye, Ant Trooper, and Mud Trooper, none of which are Shy Guys. LinkTheLefty (talk) 06:40, 13 November 2018 (EST)

Trivia[edit]
A small thing possibly (?) worth mentioning as trivia is that I’m pretty sure they’re the only stompable enemies in the game that take on a different appearance when defeated with a ground pound as opposed to a regular stomp. A regular stomp just flattens them the same way as Goombas and other Octoomba variants but ground pounding them pancakes them with their faces facing upwards. 70.79.157.55 23:10, January 5, 2025 (EST)
