Dream Events[edit]
I'm so excited for this game, but will there be dream events in this game? RoyKoopa510 (talk) 18:50, March 30, 2019 (EDT)
Dream Events[edit]
Characters like Metal Sonic are returning and guests are unfortunately back since Nintendo and Sega refuse to understand why people don't like it I guess here's the video: https://youtu.be/UugcIgd6Sx0

- Uh, okay. 00:17, June 12, 2019 (EDT)
- You misunderstand somewhat Zavok is a playable character but only in boxing
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 35.136.185.103 (talk).
Actually it is blatantly obvious since Zavok was restricted to one sport in the previous game boxing he only shown boxing as well especially since though not every character is usable in the demo every character that can be used in every event is still shown.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 35.136.185.103 (talk).
- Clearly I know nothing about this series :P 00:44, June 12, 2019 (EDT)
- I am not trying to be rude I apologize if it came off that way.

- I am not trying to be rude I apologize if it came off that way.
- There is a possibility Zavok is a unlockable character hence why he doesn't appear on any of the character select screen. Same goes for any other characters that will appear we haven't seen yet. Marc (talk) 13:24, June 12, 2019 (UK Time Zone)
- Adding on the topic of Zavok, as he was only seen participating in Boxing (for which he was a Guest character in Rio 2016), there is a possibility the Guest Character feature returns. There is space on the character select screen to add a button for it, and as the screenshot that Baby Luigi offered is for Surfing, well, Zavok wouldn't be included in there. I suggest we list Zavok as "unconfirmed". MarioComix (talk) 21:50, June 12, 2019 (EDT)
Turns out I was right all along unfortunately frustrating how they refused to listen to that criticism

Adding more screenshots[edit]
Can someone please add more screenshots since a full trailer was released yesterday I would have thought someone would have done that by now 35.136.185.103 12:59, June 12, 2019 (EDT)
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020[edit]
Did you find the release date? Amyrose (talk) 06:26, August 1, 2019 (EDT)

Are there going to be Miis as playable characters?[edit]
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Amyrose (talk) 09:32, August 1, 2019 (EDT)
- All information currently known to the public is already on the page. MarioComix (talk) 21:55, August 1, 2019 (EDT)
- Unfortunately they're not, and this game's a disappointed and ruined thanks to that. :/ I'm gonna stick with the five games I have from the first game on the Wii to the 2016 Olympic Games from the Wii U. --RodneytheMiiGuy 05:27, October 28, 2019 (EDT)
Descriptions[edit]
The official Olympic Video games website has descriptions for each of the characters. Should we use those? PrPro03 (talk) 13:09, August 20, 2019 (EDT)
- On each character's respective pages, yes. They are not needed for this page. Doomhiker (talk) 13:11, August 20, 2019 (EDT)
Japanese Character Advantages[edit]
I have seen Japanese footage of the character select screen for 100m and Dream Shooting. Is there a way to translate those and add them in the Advantages section? PrPro03 (talk) 17:11, September 19, 2019 (EDT)
- This is when you should specify/link this Japanese footage. While I'm on the topic, you really need to start referencing your edits using the citation format, since several of your edits here have been unsourced (not claiming it's false, but it's a rule that everyone does this for upcoming content so others don't). Mario JC 22:24, September 19, 2019 (EDT)
Confirmed Sports[edit]
The Confirmed Sports section refers to Football as one of the sports represented in the trailer but, as Football is not an Olympic Sport and based on the color/shape of the ball, as well as the position and shape of the goalposts, it is actually most likely Rugby.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mariolovestrannies (talk).
- I don't think we know the name yet, so we'll probably keep it as football until we get a definite name. If you want to change it though, feel free. --MikhailMCraft (talk) 13:11, October 2, 2019 (EDT)
More information on the guests characters[edit]
We now know what characters like Toadette are unfortunately exclusive to here's your proof: https://youtu.be/RUg4E7ctfU4 shame they refused to listen to criticism on removing it guess they are too lazy or too stubborn to listen to us. I told you people the guest character thing would return but you didn't believe me at the time just saying.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 35.136.185.103 (talk).
It should be mentioned how the male sonic characters (not counting Metal Sonic) aside from Dr. Eggman and excluding Sonic who wears a life vest do not wear swim shorts in 100m freestyle despite otherwise wearing unique clothing for each non Dream event.
I think this should be mentioned because that's part of the appeal of this game yet they do not wear swim shorts for this event for some reason.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 35.136.185.103 (talk).
- I don't see why this is notable enough for a mention. Also, I'm pretty sure that the appeal of the game is not Sonic wearing swim shorts. TheDarkStar 20:55, October 4, 2019 (EDT)
Because they do wear unique clothing for all other events yet not this one for some reason.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by 35.136.185.103 (talk).
- Questions on what constitutes appeal to some people aside, it's still not noteworthy enough. We aren't obligated to report literally every instance of slightly-different-colored hat or the like just because it exists. -- Lord G. matters. 21:06, October 4, 2019 (EDT)
Mario, Luigi, Wario and Waluigi's athletic shoes are identical to the ones they wear in Mario Tennis Aces[edit]
I am surprised this has not been added to the references to other games section on the article yet especially since it is actually true.

Espio’s Head Icon[edit]
I was wondering if anyone could upload Espio’s head icon into the guest character table. I’ve uploaded it to the gallery, but don’t know how to place it in the table (I’m new here idk how any of this works :P). Koopamniac (talk) 10:43, November 5, 2019 (EST)
- Like this. The page is semi-protected, which is why you currently can't edit it since you're not autoconfirmed yet.
- Regarding the file itself, keep in mind when you upload that {{uncategorized}} is replaced with at least one image category link from Category:MarioWiki images (in this case,
[[Category:Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Images]]
). I've done it for you this time but just something to keep in mind if you upload again. Mario JC 20:12, November 5, 2019 (EST)
[edit]
The official manual states that Luigi “excels at different events” than Mario. The best way to check that characters in types have different stats is via Fencing. Dr. Eggman moves faster than Peach in that mode (except when stepping), but Peach has slightly better stepping. You can also check for Technique values via how wide the field of view is for the Archery event. Characters in Tokyo 1964 however, have identical abilites. -- memoryman3 (talk) 09:14, November 9, 2019 (EST)
- Thanks for reporting, that was to be expected considered how the Wii U Rio game handled the stats. Considering how the three parameters - Strength, Speed and Technique - are translated in the statistics of the events, do you think you can rank the various characters in each parameter so we have at least a rough idea of the relative stats?—Mister Wu (talk) 12:38, November 9, 2019 (EST)
- On it. I have tested Archery for characters from Mario up til Sonic. Luigi has better technical ability than Mario, but is slower. Daisy’s a bit better than Sonic in terms of technique too, but is worse than Yoshi. Shadow and Sonic have the same speed -- memoryman3 (talk) 18:49, November 9, 2019 (EST)
Further testing has determined that the numerical stats for each character seem to be identical to Rio 2016 (Toadette's stats being the same as Toad's from that game). I will transfer the tables used in that game to this one. -- memoryman3 (talk) 17:39, November 27, 2019 (EST)
Guest Descriptions[edit]
Does anyone know if guests have a description? I remember seeing one for Luigi when some guy pulled up a menu of all the characters in Story Mode and Luigi had a description (the same one as the website). I don’t know if the guests have those as well. PrPro03 (talk) 14:00, November 9, 2019 (EST)
- From what I saw, that menu does not seem to have any guest characters. They could be listed in some place else, but I haven't done much research in other fields yet. There are special descriptions for Mario, Sonic, Toad, and (presumably) Bowser and Dr. Eggman in Story Mode (all of whom are in the Tokyo '64 version). BMfan08 (talk) 19:35, November 9, 2019 (EST)
- Do you think we could use the trivia of the guests for their descriptions (minus the question and the initial answer)? PrPro03 (talk) 09:05, December 17, 2019 (EST)
Guest Artwork[edit]
Instead of using the head icons for the guests, do you think we could use their home series artwork (it would technically be relevant to the game as they use it in their trivia cards)? PrPro03 (talk) 10:30, December 24, 2019 (EST)
Stats[edit]
Even though stats are not reported in game, it is said that the in-game differences are still present, apparently being the same as Rio 2016 Wii U (and to a certain extend, Tokyo 2020 for Arcade). If that is the case, should we show each character's stats on the tables (and if we were, what would happen with Eggman Nega and Ludwig because the stats in Rio 3DS are slightly different than Wii U)? PrPro03 (talk) 07:32, May 12, 2020 (EDT)
- Well, for Ludwig we have the data from the complete Mii costume (that has the same stats as the character). These are Ludwig's stats in the Wii U version of Rio:
Ludwig |
|
- No luck for Eggman Nega, though, as no Mii costume data exists for him in the Wii U version.
- I'd first do a final check if the Wii U stats have indeed been ported to the 2020 game (which is definitely a possibility), plus I'd check if Ludwig stats have been changed - these are All-Around stats according to the 2020 classification, not Technique stats. If tests can't derive Eggman Nega's stats, we can only show them as unknown.--Mister Wu (talk) 16:09, May 12, 2020 (EDT)

Rocky Wrench[edit]
I was wondering did Rocky Wrench or Monty Mole ever appear in this game? (Maybe in story mode) MontyMoleLoreMaster (talk) 18:53, September 30, 2021 (EDT)
