Talk:Hachisuke
English title[edit]
If it is referred to as Hu-Bee, then why not rename it that way? -- Unshy Guy 19:54, 28 December 2018 (EST)
- As far as the Mario franchise is concerned, Hu-Bee is only truly relevant in Super Mario Bros. Special, where the collectible item is referred to as Hachisuke in-game. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:51, 17 February 2019 (EST)
Finding an Alternate English Name[edit]

A rename has been suggested for a while, so let's buckle down and find a working one. Hachisuke has the benefit of being a recurring Hudson Soft element, so if we look through the Hudson catelog, we're bound to find a working source. The NES Adventure Island manual has a potential name: "BEE". But that name is already taken by several other subjects, so we can do better. The Milon's Secret Castle manual has another name: the "Hudson Bee". And if we look in the Japanese manual on equivalent page 9:「ハチスケ」(Hachisuke). A match! (Incidentally, I couldn't find a concise list of games that contain the Hudson Bee as an item, but it seems as though Super Mario Bros. Special might be one of the earlier games, if not the earliest.) So I guess this begs the question: should we allow this source if it's a non-Mario one? Given the nature of the subject, I would assume that should be okay, but I also don't know how consistent it is. If anyone knows more games in which the Hudson Bee appears in, those games could be checked for possible other names. We never did find out where "Hu-Bee" came from.
