Isn't it more likely that his name is derived from flint- a black type of chert, which is/was the hard, microcrystalline quartz commonly used in spear- and arrow-heads by various peoples throughout human history due to its incredible hardness and difficulty in breaking?
I mean, the definition of 'flint' you use- relating to fire-starting- was actually derived, ultimately, from the same source- when flint is struck upon iron, it creates a spark, which is still a reliable method to start a fire without matches. Hence, they used the term 'flint' for those kinds of striking fire-starters.
Either way, just wanted to make sure I didn't step on anyone's toes before editing that trivia section, inconsequential though it is. Dinosaur bob 22:04, 5 March 2009 (EST)
