Trim article?[edit]
Since this proposal passed, would that mean that this article has the general information (i.e. information that's no different from the original Super Famicom and SNES version) trimmed? Super Mario RPG (talk) 16:43, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- Personally, I feel there's enough sporadic differences (such as level order, enemy placement, and new items) it's best to keep as-is than remove only what is similar. That proposal failing was more "keep it case-by-case" than "remove it from every other remake." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:01, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- The way these games were ported is more or less the same in spirit of how Super Mario Bros. Deluxe and the Super Mario Advance series were remade, and neither of those have comprehensive lists of what can be found in-game. Super Mario RPG (talk) 17:07, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- And I think those ones probably should, personally. These pages came much later since for a very long time they were inexplicably merged to the SNES game pages. Then I took it upon myself to split them and actually gather all the missing sprites (most of which still are only on these pages rather than in galleries). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 17:30, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- Definitely not all of it should be removed, though some of the entries were directly copypasted from the original SFC/SNES page, such as Army's and Bitesize's, and in hindsight makes it more difficult for me to see where the actual differences from the original version are. Super Mario RPG (talk) 18:04, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- Consider though, the remakes of Mario Bros., which do generally keep full information for simplicity's sake. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:29, July 13, 2024 (EDT)
- This is a tough one. As stated above, some of the entries literally duplicate what's on the base page, but with sprites swapped out, so I think something has to be done eventually. Super Mario RPG (talk) 12:36, September 19, 2024 (EDT)
- If you want to remove it, I'd say make a proposal. Reminder that games like The Lost Levels Super Mario Bros. Special have near-duped enemy descriptions as well due to their asset reuse, but are considered distinct enough to put there each time (for that matter, consider Donkey Kong Land 2, which unlike the other DKL games is a glorified demake with different level layouts). IMO, it makes more sense to include new items and barrels and such amid the others of the same type that already exist, as it looks quite barebones with their tables just covering them and having nothing to compare them with, visually or behaviorally - to say nothing of the different beginning and ending appearances of enemies with the shuffled level order. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:09, September 21, 2024 (EDT)
- MarioWiki:Once and only once. Super Mario RPG (talk) 12:14, September 21, 2024 (EDT)
- Again, please note the DKL2 thing. DKL2 is just as different from DKC2 as this is from the original DKC. Most ports and remakes are a coat of paint and maybe a Funky new mode. This really isn't. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:18, September 21, 2024 (EDT)
- Should I add Donkey Kong Land 2 to the reissues category then? Super Mario RPG (talk) 12:20, September 21, 2024 (EDT)
- Whatever you do, I'd suggest a proposal first. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 12:23, September 21, 2024 (EDT)
