Talk:Burner
Offical name? Great Gonzo
Yes, I checked my SMA4 Player's Guide to confirm. -- Booster
Bill Blaster!?[edit]
How do we know that these are Bill Blasters, or even species at all? Just because they look similar doesn't mean they're the same thing.

Its just in Super Mario Bros. 3. --78.248.232.59 13:41, 23 April 2016 (EDT)
Super Mario Sunshine[edit]
That section looks very out-of-place, as what it describes is only related in that it is a machine that makes fire. Granted, most enemies in Sunshine were weird (due to being made from goop), but these are pretty clearly full constructs that are not intended to be the same thing. Any proof of them being intended as such? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 18:07, 7 March 2018 (EST)
- Don't know, I doubt they are the same. There is no reference included within the section, either. I don't have access to the Prima guide, but maybe someone who does can see if they are referred to in it. --DeepFriedCabbage 15:17, August 13, 2019 (EDT)
- The name Burner only started showing up in Super Mario Maker, so I doubt the Burner name will be in there. Even then, Prima probably called them "Heat-based destruction generator that hurts Mario for three points of damage and has fiery fury". TheDarkStar 15:22, August 13, 2019 (EDT)
- Burners were previously referred to as "Rocket Engines" and "flamethrowers", so one of those names could have been used. --DeepFriedCabbage 15:29, August 13, 2019 (EDT)
- The ones from Sunshine are different, as the flames can actually be put out here (and yes, I know that the ones from 6-Tower in New Super Scripted Bros. 2 can be put out by switches). "Rocket Engine" wouldn't really fit it, but Prima probably used it anyway (that's what caused the whole Missile Bill debacle). "Flamethrower" fits better, but Prima does not know a good name when they see it. TheDarkStar 15:37, August 13, 2019 (EDT)
- They don't really fit anywhere else, tbh. Functionally, it's the same as a regular Burner, it just looks different (and water interacting with returning obstacles/enemies is a common thing in Sunshine, so). Nintendo Power does not give a name, btw. 16:05, August 13, 2019 (EDT)
- How is it the same? This acts like a stovetop and only loses its flame if sprayed, iirc. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:29, August 13, 2019 (EDT)

Flamethrowers from Super Mario 64 (+ Super Princess Peach)[edit]
I think flamethrowers from SM64 (which also appeared in Super Princess Peach) should be merged with this page.

- There might be a bigger issue with the article organization. I'm going to ask for clarification. We'll see what others think. Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 19:05, April 18, 2023 (EDT)
Not clear what this page is about[edit]
Is it related to that particular cannon-shaped flamethrower from Super Mario Bros. 3 that is usually associated with boss levels from the 2D platformers? Or is it just an article about hazards that spew fire (jet engines, cutting torches, flaming urns, explosive cannon things) with a very generic "burner" moniker which are all lumped in here? If it is a general hazard article why is the flamethrower in Super Mario 64 split (and has content from Super Princess Peach oddly enough)? Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 19:04, April 18, 2023 (EDT)
- There's also Fire Shooters in a game that already has Burners, while the stovetop things in Sunshine are apparently called "Burner" by the Japanese Encyclopedia (and Sunshine was weird enough with returning enemies I'd believe it given there's a citation now). As for SPP, it's in every way identical to the SM64 "trail of fireballs emitted from hole in rock," so that's where I put it. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:14, April 18, 2023 (EDT)
SMM[edit]
Didn't SMB3 also get a new sprite? Unless i'm misremembering, they looked different in the original. (aside from the Bill Blaster ones) -- FanOfYoshi 07:18, July 9, 2023 (EDT)
