Talk:Blimp
Split[edit]
Why are two completely separate blimps merged onto the same article? There's no reason for it, as far as I can tell; they should be split. Hello, I'm Time Turner. 20:42, 6 October 2016 (EDT)
- Yes, they seem to be two different things, I see no reason why they shouldn't be split. A general "blimp" article also isn't needed since there's really only two of them in the Mario series (not counting the background blimps in some Mario spin-offs, which aren't that significant). Mario JC 07:28, 7 October 2016 (EDT)
- In its current state, it appears it should be split. This article isn't complete, however, since it doesn't mention at least the blimp in Luigi Circuit (GBA) / Sky Garden or the blimp in the beginning of Mario Tennis. Since we do have an article on another generic flying thing, Hot Air Balloon, we can probably have an article on blimps provided we find enough appearances for them AND if they serve notable gameplay purposes, though the ones I mentioned are just background scenery. Gonna bump this 7-year-old discussion that still hasn't been resolved. The way I see it, these are the named-and/or-recurring specific blimps that can be split:
- Luigi blimp: Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, Mario Kart DS
- Cheep Blimp: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Mario Kart Wii (arguably)
- Whale Shark: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (this one's relevance is itself debatable, as it's a cameo from a third-party game)
- Zeeppelin: Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (does this one have a funny name in Japanese too?)

Split the named and/or recurring airships on this page[edit]

split TTYD Cheep Blimp and Zeeppelin 1-1-1-1-9-0
I'mma be blunt, this page is a mishmash of different subjects thrown haphazardly together. These should be split. There are different ways to do so, depending on whether one wants to count all Cheep Cheep-themed blimps as the same and whether the Whale Shark is deserving an article due to its third party nature, or the Luigi blimp due to just being a background element anyway.

- Hewer (talk) Luigi blimp feels fine to cover here with its blimp brethren, I'm not sure having Luigi on the side is enough of a game-changer to give it its own conjecturally-named article. A similar case off the top of my head is the recurring purple surfboard cars in Mario Kart 8 (Deluxe), which are just covered on the truck page because they're trucks. Whale Shark also doesn't feel like it has enough relevance to Mario to be split, it's just a background element in Wii Sports Resort references and can be mentioned on this article. However, I support splitting the two specific, named blimps (as hilarious as it is for Zeeppelin to be on this page given the quote at the top).
- Arend (talk) I feel like splitting the Luigi blimp away from the other Mario Kart blimps is a bit weird considering they're all nearly identical in function as aesthetic background elements (plus the Luigi blimp only made three appearances and hasn't appeated again since the GBA courses in Mario Kart DS). Cheep Blimp and Zeeppelin do actually have functions (and names) in their respective RPGs.
- RHG1951 (talk) I feel like these two blimps are the only ones notable enough to have their own pages.
- Nintendo101 (talk) Per proposal.
- MegaBowser64 (talk) Per all of yall (collectively)
- SONIC123CDMANIA+&K(B&ATSA) (talk) Yeah, the ultimate goal here would be a full split, but better to do one step at a time, especially when everyone (not counting the other votes Doc made for the other options (excluding Do Nothing)) agrees that this is the option to be done.
- Cadrega86 (talk) These are the only two notable blimps with an actual relevance to the story, and not just background elements. As much as I love the Luigi blimp, it's no different than the other Mario Kart background blimps.
- Kirbeat (talk) The Cheep Blimp and the Zeeppelin are their own notable things that should get their own pages. Every blimp in the background of Mario Kart tracks doesn't feel notable enough for me to be covered, as the player cannot even interact with them, and they are not a reference to anything else, so I don't think they should even get pages, be Luigi-coded or not. The one from Wii Sports Resort has even less reason to be covered.

Comments[edit]
Do you know if the name "Luigi blimp" is an official title used anywhere, or is it a term we have adopted for blimps with Luigi on the side? - Nintendo101 (talk) 16:05, May 14, 2024 (EDT)
- I don't believe it's official. However, it is recurring and distinct. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:08, May 14, 2024 (EDT)
