Name[edit]

Bowser calls them Giant Land Paragoombas in the cartoon so shouldn't that count as an official english name Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)

Currently this article is under the name Huge Paragoomba which is the translation of their Japanese name deka patakuribō. The reason for us using the Japanese name is that according to the article there is no official English name for these large Paragoombas. However i feel that is incorrect because in the The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode Princess Toadstool for President Bowser refers to them as Giant Land Paragoombas and i feel that Giant Land Paragoomba should qualify as an official name since its what they were called in the cartoons.

Move to Giant Land Paragoombas[edit]

  1. Goomba's Shoe15 (talk) per my proposal.
  2. Reddragon19k (talk) Per GS15! That is indeed a good one. Although I like this proposal, I love it all!

Keep at Huge Paragoomba[edit]

  1. MrConcreteDonkey (talk) - According to the priority list, the first international name from a non-English region has priority over cartoons.

The above proposal ultimately didn't work out at the time because of a conflict in the naming policy, but the priority list was recently updated with the removal of the aforementioned issue. In the revised version, any known English name from a recognized acceptable source is now used over non-English ones. This would fall under #4: Name used in officially licensed media, taking precedence over the Japanese reference.

Move to Giant Land Paragoombas[edit]

  1. LinkTheLefty (talk) Per policy.
  2. Magikrazy (talk) Don't really like the name, but it takes top priority. Per ltl.
  3. Megamario15 (talk) The name is strange, but it is the only translation that we have, so we should use it.
  4. Walkazo (talk) - Per policy. Also, the current title's even breaking the rules twofold, and always has been, since you're not supposed to translate non-English names, but I guess no one noticed this page all these years... But better late than never, and better "Giant Land Paragoomba" than "Deka Patakuribō".
  5. Zakor1138 (talk) - Per policy.
  6. Mario (talk) The cartoon has a knack of giving strange names to otherwise official characters, but it does sound like a convincing name, and besides, everything is canon, so we have to make of what we have. Even if it weren't for the cartoon, it should've been "Grand Paragoomba" in conjunction with Grand Goomba.
  7. Dfrthyui (talk) Per policy.
  8. Glitchy Bowser Jr. (talk) Per policy.
  9. Ghost Jam (talk) Per policy.
  10. LudwigVon (talk) Per policy.

Keep at Huge Paragoomba[edit]

Comments[edit]

I own a copy of The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. I had previously seen all of the episodes. I never heard the name Giant Land Paragoomba once. Could somebody tell me the origin of the name, and if it does appear in the aforementioned video like in the first proposal, where it appears? Megamario15 - The REAL Mario (talk) 16:51, 8 January 2015 (EST)

Never mind. After looking at the above proposal again, I saw which episode it is in. I still don't recall that name... Megamario15 - The REAL Mario (talk) 16:54, 8 January 2015 (EST)
The clip's on YouTube: "Check 'em out Cheatsey, these Giant Land Paragoombas will blah blah blah.." - Walkazo 16:58, 8 January 2015 (EST)
Thank you for the reference, Walkazo. I appreciate the assistance. Before watching the clip, I thought that Wendy/Kootie Pie was saying that. Megamario15 - The REAL Mario (talk) 19:28, 8 January 2015 (EST)

Grand Paragoomba?[edit]

The only reason they go by this name is because of their mentioning in the non-canon cartoon from over 20 years ago based on the game where this species never existed until a couple years ago. But at this point we've established that larger than standard sized Goombas are known as Grand Goombas, with the other incarnations also adopting the name. i.e. Grand Tail Goomba.

So logically, shouldn't the name of this article be changed to Grand Paragoomba? Mariofanatic64 (talk)

Not necessarily. Koopa Troopas from Giant Land are referred to as Gargantua Koopa Troopas, but their winged brethren are called Colossal Koopa Paratroopas. The name Grand Tail Goomba takes after Grand Goombas because there is no official name for them. Giant Land Paragoombas were called such in the cartoon, and nowhere else gave them an American name. Since an official source gave them one, that's what we use. Magikrazy (talk)

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition[edit]

Need to point out that the giant variant of the Paragoomba in that game is called "Big Paragoomba". If I'm correct, would it be reasonable if this article be called "Big Paragoomba"? If there is any clarification, please let me know, since species nomenclature can be pretty damn confusing. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO!
