Split Arcade game from Arcade[edit]

delete article 6-0-9
This article is currently about both arcade games in real life and the arcade location in a game. We should split to two seperate ones because they are totally different.

Proposer: Bowser's luma (talk)
Deadline: April 4, 2011, 23:59 GMT

Split[edit]

Bowser's luma (talk) Per my proposal.

  1. Kaptain K. Rool (talk) - I should totally agree. They aren't the same thing. An Arcade game is a game used to play in an arcade while an arcade is the system that plays the games.
  2. Mariomario64 (talk) Per Kaptain K. Rool.
  3. Reddragon19k (talk) Per all! I think that the arcade is a system and an arcade game is game for the arcade so, I say we split them!
  4. Iggykoopa (talk) I am josh i support this proposal... PER ALL
  5. Superfiremario (talk) Per All
  6. LeftyGreenMario (talk) I don't see why we have to delete Arcade. It's a gaming console, just like the Gamecube and the Wii. The Arcade also pertains to the Mario series since it hosts a number of Mario games. The arcade has Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Kart Arcade GP, etc. We can create an arcade article in the same manner as the Wii. I'm not that familiar with arcades though, since there may be different versions of some, but I think we can have a generic arcade article written in the same manner as the Nintendo consoles.

Don't Split[edit]

Delete[edit]

  1. Knife (talk) – I threw in another option if you don't mind. I think this should just be scrapped altogether. "Arcade" is just a generic term which is not changed in the Mario series. Just because Super Paper Mario features a fictional arcade does not make it notable. Think about it, if we have an article on "Arcade", why not have an article on "Building", "Lab", etc.?
  2. SWFlash (talk) I prefer delete.
  3. Zero777 (talk) I am Zero! I prefer to delete it to since it's not a specific topic from any game or comic, and even the one that appeared in the DK game was just for show, like an easter egg. Leave it to Wikipedia to take care of that topic. Per my comment below. Zero signing out.
  4. Bop1996 (talk) Per all.
  5. Ultrahammer5365 (talk) Per all.
  6. Bowser's luma (talk) It now makes sense to delete.
  7. Marioguy1 (talk) - An arcade is not necessarily a console; consoles are systems that play cartridges inserted into them. This thing, when turned on, plays a game automatically. So I'd define it as a cartridge, rather than a console. And we don't have articles on cartridges (or at least, the articles are the articles on the game itself). Per Zero, in the comments.
  8. UltraMario3000 (talk) Per the single robotic Mario duplicate.
  9. Mario4Ever (talk) Per all.

Comments[edit]

Just rename would be better. SWFlashSWFlash.svg

I would say delete... The article's purpose is completely unclear. Is it supposed to be about a certain arcade? Is it just a description of arcades in general with no links to canon arcades? Or is it meaning to tell about the console (so to speak) on which games are played? In any case, the article is neither informative nor useful. I vote delete. - Bloc Partier (talk)

I am Zero! I vote delete to, it's not a specific topic, it's a bit too general, I think it's best to leave it to Wikipedia. Zero signing out. Zero777 (talk)
I suggest replace this article with only the information as to the console (delete the stuff about in-game arcades) and (maybe) make Arcade (disambiguation) where links to other Arcades are placed. Marioguy1 (talk)
I am Zero! Like what? Zero signing out. Zero777 (talk)
Like Donkey Kong, Mario Kart Arcade GP, Mario Kart Arcade GP 2, and some others. SWFlashSWFlash.svg
Oh no, I think the proposal is talking about the arcade as a module and a location in-game, not actual games in real-life. Plus I think the arcade module is described in those game articles. Zero777 (talk)
Zero is right. That's what I was getting at. Bowser's luma (talk)

I am split between deleting and merging. An Arcade is a console that can play Mario games, right? So, that would be on the same vein as Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo 64, but it only plays a few Mario games (Donkey Kong and Mario Kart Arcade GP). We should cover the consoles that play the games, but what if it is quite a few? Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! Well it's complicated, technically if we want to have "29,756 articles on the complete Mario series" (that's a quote from the main page), then we should cover every aspect of it; including the consoles. But we don't have articles on many of the older consoles. Marioguy1 (talk)

So we should make articles on them. I don't see why we have an article for Gamecube, but not for older systems. Icon showing how many lives Mario has left. From Super Mario 64 DS. It's me, Mario! (Talk / Stalk) 14:13, 2 April 2011 (EDT)

Well it's hard to say. I would say that your argument is unrelated, and thus invalid, since the Gamecube and other home gaming consoles are just modules that read and translate any game data, of its own, onto a TV screen, while arcade modules are just the game itself projected onto a TV screen, and can't be changed. Personally, I think the arcade module is too vague to have its own article here, let Wikipedia deal with it, and the games that appeared in arcade modules usually got ported into a future gaming console or virtual console and the arcade information is on the respected game article itself.
