Syrup, along with all of it's varieties, has appeared in most of the Mario RPG series, as one of the main items in the games. They all have the ability to heal special stats that allow the use of special moves. Usually, the syrups can only heal special stats to one character per syrup.

Syrup Jars, originally known as Syrups, are consumables that appear in the Mario & Luigi series as one of the main items in the games. When consumed, they restore a certain amount of Bros. Points to their consumer. They are usable both during and outside of a battle, and have the ability to heal special stats that allow the use of special moves. Supersyrup Jars, Ultrasyrup Jars, and Max Syrup Jars each successively heal greater amounts.

Syrup Jars are present in every Mario & Luigi installment, with the exception of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, where Bros. Points are replaced by Bros. Items.
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was the first game to introduce the use of Syrups and FP. The first syrup featured was Honey Syrup, which healed 10 FP. Maple Syrup, an upgraded version of the Honey Syrup, healed 40 FP. Royal Syrup, the counterexample of the Max Mushroom, heals all FP.

Where as Mushrooms recover HP, Syrups would return the recovery of FP. With two exceptions of the Life Shroom and Volt Shroom, there is a Syrup for every Mushroom in Paper Mario.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Syrups recover twenty Bros. Points to its user. They are sold at Castle Town Item Shop and Little Fungitown Item Shop from the first visit for twenty-four coins. Several enemies have a chance of dropping them after a battle: Queen Bean has a 100% if her left arm is deflated, non-flattened Rexes have a 32.26% chance, Spiky Snifits have a 25.81% chance, Chucklehuck Woods' Chuck Guys have a 22.58% chance, and Yo Bros. have a 9.68% chance.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, Syrups restore fifteen Bros. Points instead of twenty.

In Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door all the syrups found in Paper Mario return in it's sequel with the same healing properties. Plus, the Gradual Syrup, counterexample of the Slow Shroom, slowly recovering FP each turn. The Nitro Honey Syrup also appears, but is never witnessed yet mentioned in Chapter 6 (Supposedly, it is capable of raising the dead.).

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, Syrup Jars return after being absent from Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. They recover ten Special Points (the game's equivalent of Mario & Luigi: Superstar Sagas Bros Points) when used. Goombules, Elite Goombules, Protobatters, and Sneeds have a 30% chance of dropping a Syrup Jar after fighting them, Treevils have a 25% chance, Beehosses, Flifits, and Spike Blops have a 20% chance, Trashures have a 15% chance, Chain Chawfuls have a 10% chance, and Biffiduses have a 5% chance.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Syrup Jars restore fifteen Bros. Points instead of ten; Also, Bowser uses cheese to restore his SP (being renamed BP in the game's remake) instead of Syrup Jars.
Super Paper Mario
Yet again, the syrups reappear in the latest paper adventure, Super Paper Mario. All the syrups, excluding the Nitro Honey Syrup, return, along having the same stats as before. This time, the Sap Syrup and Dayzee Syrup appears, both slowly recovering HP this time, though.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Syrup Jars are back to restoring Bros. Points and again restore twenty of them. They can be bought from item shops at the beginning for twenty coins. Dreamcap Captains and Flibbees have a 10% chance of dropping a Syrup Jar.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Syrups recover BP. Just like in the Paper Mario series, they have mushroom counterparts. Regular Syrups recover 20 BP. Super Syrups, a more powerful version of the regular syrups, would recover 40 BP. Ultra Syrups, even more powerful, could recover a bros. BP to 100. The Max Syrup, the most powerful syrup, would recover all BP to the given character.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Syrup Jars return in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam. This time, Syrup Jars can also be used to recover Paper Mario's BP to use Trio Attacks.
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Syrups return after missing it's prequel, this time recovering SP; the eqivilent of SS's BP. Yet, in this game, they often called them as syrup jars, which recovered 10 SP. Supersyrup Jars, an upgrade of Syrup jars, would recover 20 SP. Ultrasyrup Jars are able to heal 30 SP, being more useful than supersyrup jars. Max Syrup Jars, unlike the Max Syrups from Superstar Saga, could only heal 40 SP rather than all SP.

In Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Syrup Jars restore ten Bros. Points instead of twenty. The "Auto Syrup Jar" Battle Plug allows immediate use of a Syrup Jar whenever Mario or Luigi's BP is low.
