Surf's Way Up is a Duel minigame in Mario Party 8.

Overview
Surf's Way Up is a Duel minigame in Mario Party 8, as well as a single-player minigame in Test for the Best. Its name is a pun on the phrase "surf's up."
The opening shows each player riding their jetboard down a path in outer space, with Earth visible in the background.
__NOTOC__
Introduction
The two players find themselves standing on jetboards, hovering over a short road-like expanse. When they reach the end of the expanse, the players are surfing openly through outer space. In the background, Earth can be seen.

Players try to go through colored circular goals with different point values, though the goals depicting a Bowser emblem drop them down to zero instantly. The player with the most points by the end wins, though if both end with the same number, it is a tie.
Gameplay
The goal is to go through colored circular point goals with different point values. However, the player must watch out for the Bowser goals with his emblem shown on them, or else their score will instantly drop to zero. Whoever has more points at the end of the minigame wins.

Test for the Best has a single-player variety where points are earned through the same means while avoiding the Bowser goals. The scores necessary to earn a certain point total are as follows:
Ending
The winning player performs their victory pose, and launches far ahead of the losing player on their jetboard and out of sight as the losing player sulks on their jetboard behind them. If both players have the same number of points, both players will perform their losing poses and the jetboards will not speed ahead.

Test for the Best
In Test for the Best, the player plays alone in this minigame and must go through as many circular point goals as possible, avoiding the Bowser goals, to earn as many points as possible. The scores required to earn a certain point total are as follows:

In the ending, the winning and losing players do their respective animations as the former launches off-screen, but in the case of a tie, both do their losing animations.

Notes
Trivia
*If one of the veteran playable characters wins, they will perform one of their secondary victory animations from the GameCube-era Mario Party games (with Mario's and Luigi's being slightly different) instead of the new ones they received in this game. Blooper and Hammer Bro will perform their own new secondary victory animations as opposed to their normal ones. This is also the case in Thrash 'n' Crash.
*This minigame is similar to Target Tag from Mario Party 7, except that there are only two players instead of four.
