Sunshine Isles is a multiplayer level and an extra level added exclusively to Super Mario 64 DS, located in a painting inside the Rec Room. In regular mode, it has five Silver Stars that the player must collect for a Power Star. In multiplayer mode it has Power Stars players must collect. The music played on the level is a cover version of the Delfino Plaza theme from Super Mario Sunshine. The level is a group of islands, which are connected by shallow water.

Sunshine Isles is a level in Super Mario 64 DS only. It is also one of the stages in the VS mode. Sunshine Isles is entered from the painting in the Rec Room, so only one Power Star is required to enter it. The background music is an arrangement of "Isle Delfino," though it does not play in the VS mode, and the name is a reference to Super Mario Sunshine.

Sunshine Isles has six small islands made of sand, with the large one being located in the center of a large shallow ocean. Some islands have palm trees, and some are covered in grass. The outer area has invisible walls preventing exploring too far into the area. A yellow block containing a Shiny Shell is on the northern island, replaced by a VS Item Block with Wings in the VS mode.

There are five Silver Stars to collect: One is held by Klepto, one is in a cave behind the center island, one is atop the tree on the island with the Goomba, one is on the southeastern isle, and one is on the center island. The Star Sphere is at the starting area, and a Power Star appears in it after the player collects every Silver Star.

The player must collect the five Silver Stars to make the Power Star appear. Silver stars are scattered throughout the isle, including inside a cavern or on the top of trees. A Klepto is also holding a Silver Star and the player must intercept the Klepto in order to gain the Silver Star. If the player touches an enemy, the player will lose one Silver Star that will jump around, just like how they do before the player obtains one. In the multiplayer version, the silver star mission was replaced by 5 yellow stars where players must fight to earn them and win. The music has changed and the enemies were removed. Also, a yellow box that originally contained a green shell now has a feather which any character can use to fly, as well as Battle Fort.
