Purchase stars at half the cost.''" – [[Princess Peach|Peach]]'s [[Jamboree Buddy]] ability description, ''[[Super Mario Party Jamboree]]''</ref> originally known as a '''Star Space''' (or '''star space'''), a '''Star Spot''' in ''[[Mario Party DS]]'', and generically a '''Star''' in ''[[Mario Party 10]]'', is a special [[Space (Mario Party series)|space]] that appears in the [[Mario Party (series)|''Mario Party'' series]]. If a character passes by one, the [[guide]] (or, in some cases, the [[Star (Mario Party series)|Star]]'s bearer) asks them if they will trade a certain number of [[coin]]s for a certain number of Stars (typically one). How many coins they have to trade depends on the [[board (Mario Party series)|board]]. Traditionally, the character has to trade 20 coins for a Star, but on certain boards, the Star may cost as little as five coins or as much as 40. While in most games players only need to pass the Star Exchange to buy a Star, Partner Party mode in ''[[Super Mario Party]]'' requires a player to land on the exact space due to the mode's free movement.

After the character gets the Star, the Star Exchange moves to a different location on the map. On certain boards, such as [[Faire Square]] from ''[[Mario Party 6]]'' and [[DK's Stone Statue]] from ''Mario Party DS'', the Star Exchange's location remains stationary. Up until ''Mario Party 6'', when the Star Space moves to a different location, there is a small chance that the new Star Space appears directly where a character is standing. However, this character is unable to buy the Star and must loop around the board in order to do so.

In ''[[Super Mario Party Jamboree]]'', if Party Rules are being played, there is an option to choose the [[Last Five Turns Event|Homestretch]] event to allow there to be two Star Exchanges at once with the "Add one Star Exchange" option. This can happen on all boards, with the exception of [[Mario's Rainbow Castle]] due to that board having a fixed Star position.
