Overview
Introduction
The tiles for the grid drop down on the board (which is shown to have a Thwomp face on it in Mario Party 5) while the solo player stands on a block in the upper left corner. All the blocks drop down: three big ones and one small one. The solo player jumps into the small one, and the minigame begins.
The minigame opens with tiles falling onto the ground, depicting Thwomp in the Mario Party 5 version only, then the players, who are represented as cubes.

The solo player is a small cube that moves around the board, depicting a pattern of either Mario, a heart, a Cheep Cheep, a Yoshi Egg, a blue Fire Flower, a Goomba, or a Mushroom; however, later versions include only the Mario variation. The goal is for the solo player to avoid being crushed by any of the team players, who are represented as larger but slower cubes. If a team player crushes the solo player before time runs out, they win, otherwise the solo player does.
Gameplay
The solo player must avoid being crushed by the team players. Each team player covers four tiles with each roll, which is more than the solo player (which is only one per roll), but to counter this disadvantage, the solo player moves much more quickly than the team players. The solo player wins if they survive for 30 seconds. The team players win if one of them crushes the solo player.
The minigame ends in Mario Party 5 with Thwomps chasing the losers while the winning side poses on a golden Thwomp. Mario Party Superstars simply shows the winners and losers perform their respective poses.

The arena is a 12×12 tile grid in Mario Party 5 and Mario Party Superstars, which was reduced to a 10×10 grid in Mario Party: The Top 100. Mario Party 5s version contains several different aesthetics for the tiled floor: Mario, heart, Cheep Cheep, Yoshi Egg, blue Fire Flower, Goomba, and Mushroom. However, Mario Party: The Top 100s and Mario Party Superstarss versions feature only a Mario aesthetic. In Mario Party: The Top 100, there are no Thwomps spectating, unlike in the other games.

Mario Party 5 features no vocalizations, but in Mario Party: The Top 100 and Mario Party Superstars, players vocalize for every step they make. The lone player also vocalizes when getting crushed, as does, in Mario Party Superstarss case, the character who crushes them.

Ending
In Mario Party 5, depending on whoever wins, losers are chased by Thwomps in the background and trip while each winner performs their victory pose on top of a golden Thwomp.

In Mario Party Superstars, winners perform their victory poses in the middle of the arena, while losers can be seen performing their losing poses in the top left corner of the arena.
