The Spiny Shell returns in Mario Kart Tour, where it retains most characteristics from Mario Kart 8. This item is obtainable from 5th to 7th place. It can still be destroyed with the Super Horn, which also returns to this game, or be dodged with a well-timed Mushroom boost; successfully performing either of these two maneuvers grants a large amount of action points. There is a new method to avoid the Spiny Shell from hitting the human player by simply letting any CPU-controlled driver overtake and take the lead at the last moment, resulting in the Spiny Shell immediately changing its target and hitting the new leader almost instantly. This works even if it appears the Spiny Shell has already locked on the player at the moment it is hovering above them ready to crash, unlike past titles. This cannot be done in Multiplayer mode, though, as the Spiny Shell hits the locked on leader regardless. | The Spiny Shell returns in Mario Kart Tour, where it retains most characteristics from Mario Kart 8. In gameplay the user drags this item behind the kart like a regular Koopa Shell or Banana. Because of this, the shell can knock over other racers while held and can be destroyed if another item collides with it, causing the shell to explode and hitting any racer in the blast. If the player gets three Spiny Shells, they enter Frenzy mode, enabling the player to launch several Spiny Shells for the rest of the Frenzy. During frenzy, the Spiny Shell is less accurate to chase the lead target and explodes instantly if hits any other driver, obstacle or wall. Its blast radius is also much weaker than any previous iterations, only knocking over the target without causing the kart to flip or tumble while the user is unaffected by the blast. If the user in first place throws a Spiny Shell, the shell will go in straight line and explode after some distance instead of targeting the lead racer. | ||
