They are [[Buzzy Beetle]]s named for the single spike on top of their red shells, making them resemble a {{wp|Pickelhaube}} helmet. Spike Tops are among the more resilient enemies because their shell grants them an immunity to fire and the spike makes it unsafe to jump on them. Their defining trait is their ability to crawl along vertical and upside-down surfaces. Despite being a shelled enemy, in the platforming games, any effective method of attack will defeat them instantly instead of having them retreat into their shells.

Spike Tops are enemies in ''Super Mario World''. They climb around walls and platforms. Spike Tops first appear in the level [[Donut Plains 2]], but are the most common in [[Vanilla Dome]]. Just like Buzzy Beetles, Spike Tops are unaffected by [[fireball]]s. Spike Tops damage [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]] if [[stomp]]ed, but he can bounce off of one safely by using a [[Spin Jump]] or while on [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshi]].

The number of [[point]]s given by a Spike Top depends on how they were defeated.
