It is present in ''[[Mario Kart 64]]'', ''[[Mario Kart DS]]'', ''[[Mario Kart Wii]]'', ''[[Mario Kart 7]]'', and ''[[Mario Kart 8]]''. If a player trails behind another racer for a certain period of time, the player's [[kart]], [[bike]], or [[All-Terrain Vehicle|ATV]] receives a temporary speed boost. This can be used to ram the vehicle the player is slipstreaming behind and race ahead into a higher place.
