Some carry [[bomb]]s to drop on {{id|Yoshi|species}}, similar to the regular type, but they never carry green [[Shy Guy]]s. Oddly enough, they have feathers even though they have skeletal wings. A flightless variety exists known as the [[Flightless Skeleton Goonie]]s.

Skeleton Goonies first appear in {{a|SMW2|l}} and its {{a|YISMA3|remake}}. They are featured in the level, World 6-1: [[Scary Skeleton Goonies!]] but first appear during the first skiing part of World 5-3: [[Danger - Icy Conditions Ahead]]. Skeleton Goonies also appear in the opening segment of {{id|King Bowser's Castle|SMW2}}.

Skeleton Goonies have the same role and design in both sequels, {{a|YIDS|l}} and {{a|YNI|l}}, using sprites edited from ''Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island'' in the former and sprites edited from {{a|YT&G|l}} in the latter. Skeleton Goonies are conspicuously smaller than ordinary Goonies. The Goonies of {{a|YNI}} are encountered in [[Bowser's Castle Break-In]].

Skeleton Goonies' Lava Lair consists mostly of [[lava]] with some sections of [[Cascading Stone]]s. To complete the level with all items without the "Immunity to fire and lava!" {{id|Power Badge|YWW}}, carefully bouncing from the many Skeleton Goonies is required.
