Shrooba Divers try to ambush Mario and Luigi by surfacing under them in the overworld. They are fought alone or in pairs, and also appear alongside [[Pokey]]s and [[Bob-omb]]s.

Shrooba Divers raise their hand and spin as they tunnel under the sand, leaping out to try and dive into [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]]; [[Baby Mario]] and [[Baby Luigi]] must counter this attack with the [[hammer]]. The Shrooba Diver raises its right hand for Mario, and its left for Luigi. Shrooba Divers can also swim through the sand towards one of the Bros. and circle back towards the other from behind; the attack can be dodged and countered by [[jump]]ing, and can [[trip]] Mario or Luigi if it hits them.
Shrooba Divers will tunnel under the sand and leap out to try and dive into [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]], indicating their targets beforehand; their baby counterparts can counter this attack with the [[hammer]]. They can also try to swim directly into one of the Bros., who can counter with a jump. Occasionally, the Divers may pull out a green spiked ball (resembling a [[Spiny Egg]] or cactus) and toss it at [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]], who must jump over it to avoid being hit; the hand it uses to throw with determines which brother is being targeted. Sometimes the Shrooba Diver will pull out a [[Sand Cheep]] instead, which bounces overhead when thrown and will damage the Bros. if they jump into it.
