The Sandworm (referred to as Big Scorper in the game's European website despite this being the name of an unrelated enemy) is an antagonist in Wario World. It is a scythe-armed monster based mostly on antlion larvae, which make sand pits and have very large jaws, though the scythe arms of the Sandworm appear to reference the praying mantis, which has arms shaped like a scythe. The Sandworm is fought as a boss in a large quicksand pit at the end of Greenhorn Ruins and then later as an enemy in Pecan Sands. It attacks mainly by spitting spiked balls at Wario. Sandworm takes damage from being hit repeatedly, but it cannot be stunned. When the Sandworm loses a health skull, it becomes temporarily invincible and either slashes after Wario or burrows to the center of the arena to spit several spiked balls in random directions as the sand pit moves faster. The Sandworm slices with its arms at Wario as it becomes more damaged. Sandworm takes five hits to defeat, or four in Pecan Sands.

The Big Scorper (named SandWorm in the Prima Games guidepageneeded) is a worm-like boss in Wario World. It is the boss of Greenhorn Ruins, and the second of the three bosses in Excitement Central (the others being Reptilian Goliath and Dinomighty).

Big Scorper is fought in a large sand pit that continually pulls Wario towards the center. Its main attack is spitting spiky balls at Wario; Wario can easily damage it with repeated punches. Big Scorper cannot be stunned; when it loses one of its health skulls, it instead slashes after Wario with its scythe-like hands. Also, Big Scorper may burrow to the center of the arena and start spitting many spiked balls in random directions. When this happens, the sand pit pulls Wario in much faster. If damaged enough, it will also strike back with more powerful moves, including slicing Wario with its hands. Defeating the Big Scorper gives Wario access to Dinomighty.

The Big Scorper also appears in Pecan Sands, where its attacks are a bit faster, but it is fought and defeated in the same way.

*Big Scorper is not based on the generic Real World creature of the same name, but on the larvae from the antlion family of insects.
}}
*Big Scorper, along with Dual Dragon and Red-Brief J, are the only bosses that don't require Mad Moves to defeat, as they can't be used at all; the Big Scorper can't be grabbed and carried, and there is nothing to pick up around its arena.
*Its tactics and arena are similar to Squizzard and his arena from Super Mario Galaxy 2.
*Big Scorper bears a close resemblance to Junior the Giant Klaptrap.
*It's possible the Big Scorper is named after the Big Scorper from Frank Herbert's best selling novel Dune
