Ghost Valley 1 is the third course of the Mushroom Cup in Super Mario Kart. It is an old bridge surrounded by Boos. The course returns as the third course of the Extra Mushroom Cup in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and in Mario Kart Tour where it first appeared in the 2019 Halloween Tour. It is also the first ghost-related course in the Mario Kart series, and is also the first course set in a dark environment on a dilapidated pier-like road surrounded by Boos, a theme that future tracks follow, namely Banshee Boardwalk in Mario Kart 64 and Boo Lake and Broken Pier in Mario Kart: Super Circuit.

The music for this course (and subsequent Ghost Valley courses) is a sped-up variation of the music that plays in the Ghost Houses in Super Mario World. Part of this music is also iterated on and played on Banshee Boardwalk, Boo Lake, and Broken Pier.

The course begins with a brief straight followed by the first set of ? Panels and a 90° turn to the left. There is then a slight left turn followed by a slight right turn and another 90° left turn. Racers then go off a wide jump pad and briefly drive straight, where there is a ? Panel on both sides of the track; there is a jump pad in front of both, requiring racers to hop over the jump pad to reach the ? Panels. Racers then take another 90° left turn followed by another wide jump pad which takes them over a small gap. There is then a 90° right turn and two 90° left turns followed by a brief straight, which brings racers to the finish line.
The course has limited guard edges, but bumping into a tile at the edge of the bridge will destroy it, allowing players to go through and fall off the course. There are several jump pads on the track, the last one allowing drivers to cross a gap. Two other lines are placed directly before two ? Panels which makes those only reachable by driving back or jumping over them with a Feather or a well-timed hop. There are some planks near the end that act as a shortcut, which can only be accessed with a Feather, Mushroom (boosting off the jump pad before it), or a well-timed hop (only applicable in 150cc).left

Most of the course is surrounded by tiles which act as guard rails, but bumping into a tile will destroy it, allowing racers to go through the subsequent gap and fall off the course.

Shortcuts
A notable shortcut can be found just after the second wide jump pad. Instead of taking the subsequent right turn, the player can use a Feather to hop over a gap and reach a very narrow stretch of track that allows them to cut off the final two turns. Alternatively, this can be performed by using a Mushroom to boost off the aforementioned jump pad, or by using a well-timed hop on 150cc.

Ghost Valley 1 reappeared in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and is the third track of the Extra Mushroom Cup. It uses the background from Boo Lake. It is relatively the same as its SNES counterpart, although the two small bouncy pads before the two lone item boxes and the legs holding the track up are removed.

Ghost Valley 1 reappears in Mario Kart Tour, starting with the 2019 Halloween Tour. It is one of the six Super Mario Kart courses in the game to have not previously appeared as a retro course since Mario Kart: Super Circuit, the other five being Vanilla Lake 1, Choco Island 1, Donut Plains 2, Vanilla Lake 2, and Bowser Castle 3. The background appears to be less dark compared to its original appearance, allowing visibility of mountains, dead trees and an entire lake surrounding the track. The newly-added starting banner, which uses the classic Mario Kart logo, is held up by two light posts. The second smoother 90° turn is now made sharp. While the Item Boxes behind the two short jump pads are absent, an extra set of Item Boxes are added on the jump pad before them. The jump pad, gap, and 90° turn near the shortcut were moved back, and the straight following said turn is wider. The shortcut itself is blocked by a cutout of Boos, which hides a jump pad behind it. Additionally, the smoother turn at the end of the shortcut is wider. Unlike the original, guard edges are not destroyed after bumping into them, and there are more present on the insides of the smoother 90° turns.

Beside Ghost Valley 1, the 2019 Halloween Tour introduced additional reversed and trick versions of the course, titled Ghost Valley 1R and Ghost Valley 1T respectively, with the Valentine's Tour later adding a reversed/trick version, Ghost Valley 1R/T.

The course also appears Ghost Valley 1R (reversed), Ghost Valley 1T (with ramps), and Ghost Valley 1R/T (reversed with ramps). The former two were introduced alongside the normal variant in the 2019 Halloween Tour, while the latter was introduced in the Valentine's Tour. In all three variants, a glide ramp is present. Piranha Plants also make an appearance in the R and R/T variants.

While many retro courses in Mario Kart Tour use their original music, the course uses the Mario Kart Wii arrangement of this music, which is heard in SNES Ghost Valley 2.
