Donut Plains 1 is the second course in the Mushroom Cup of Super Mario Kart. It was later reused in Mario Kart: Super Circuit as the second track of the Extra Mushroom Cup, in Mario Kart DS as the first race of the Banana Cup, and in Mario Kart Tour, debuting as the featured course of the Hammer Bro Tour.
Donut Plains 1 first appears in Super Mario Kart, and appears as a retro track in Mario Kart: Super Circuit and Mario Kart DS.

Course layout
The course features a lake which is to be crossed by a bridge. It begins with the only set of ? Panels followed by a gradual right turn. Racers then briefly drive straight over a bridge, which has walls on both sides. Afterwards, there is a right turn followed by a left turn. Racers then encounter a right U-turn, a left U-turn, and another more gradual right U-turn, and then reach the finish line shortly after. On the inside of the last U-turn is a large patch of mud, which makes drivers' control over their karts weaker.
Donut Plains 1 is the second course in the Mushroom Cup of Super Mario Kart. It features a lake which is to be crossed by a bridge. Though the major part of the lake is surrounded by crash barriers, there are some places where the player can fall into the water. Another obstacle of the course, alongside the fact that it is relatively curvy, is a large lake of mud just before the finish line, which makes drivers' control over their Karts difficult.

Shortcuts
Appearance in Mario Kart: Super Circuit
A notable shortcut can be found just after the bridge. After taking the subsequent right turn, the player can use a Mushroom or Star to drive through the grass to the left of the track, passing through a gap in the wall and cutting off the first left turn.
In Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Donut Plains 1 is the second track from the Extra Mushroom Cup. It uses the background of Riverside Park, and it has a "jungle" feel to it now. An item box has been added to the right side at the start of the bend next to the side of the lake that used to have no crash barrier. The pipes on the side of the road have also been removed.

SNES returns in Mario Kart DS as the first course of the Banana Cup. The course now has three laps instead of five. The bridge at the beginning has been widened and the first mud patch is larger. The mud patches now slow down racers. The pipes are green, rather than orange. Donut Plains 1 was never available in Wi-Fi mode.
Donut Plains 1 is the first course in the Banana Cup. Like every other Retro Super Mario Kart track in Mario Kart DS, it only has 3 laps instead of 5. Racers cannot fall into the lake from the bridge, they can only fall in on the starting straight, where it stretches outside the boundaries of the crash barriers. Mission 2-3 (Drive through all 5 numbered gates in order!) is played on this track. Donut Plains 1 is not available in Wi-fi mode.

Missions
*Mission 2-3: The player controls Donkey Kong, who must drive through 5 gates within 45 seconds, with the help of some ground Mushrooms.

Shortcuts
SNES reappears as a classic course in Mario Kart Tour, debuting in the Hammer Bro Tour. It generally retains its Mario Kart DS layout; however, the walls within the course are thinner, and the barriers left of the bridge are absent. The bridge is also reverted to its original width. The gap in the wall after the second turn is shorter and moved right. The pipes are also gone, as in the Mario Kart: Super Circuit version of the course. The lake does not extend to the starting turn, and its two sides near the second U-turn are the same length. The brown hills in the background are also removed.
*Turning right after the bridge, the user can boost across the Grass patch.
*After the first bend after the bridge, there is a gap in the crash barrier. Players can go through here to cut off a bit of the track.
*Boosting through the large patches of mud around the corners can lose some time.

The course also appears as  Donut Plains 1R (reversed), Donut Plains 1T (with ramps), and Donut Plains 1R/T (reversed with ramps). The former two were introduced alongside the normal variant in the Hammer Bro Tour, while the latter was introduced in the 2020 Yoshi Tour. In the R/T variant, there is a glide ramp a bit before the bridge, as well as two Piranha Plants that make it more difficult to cut off the turn.
Official descriptions
*Official website: “Super Mario Kart vets are sure to recall the twists and turns on this nerve-racking track. Stay focused, or you’ll get muscled into the grass.”
*Official European website “Sadly there are no sugary treats to be found here but Donut Plains 1 still makes for some pretty sweet racing. The layout is similar to Mario Circuit 1 but ‘donut’ be fooled into letting your guard down, as the trackside mud patches have caught many a driver unawares.”

This course uses the original version of its music, despite it being arranged in Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart 8.
