The Reticulon Army[1] is the antagonist of the Game Boy game Solar Striker, whose events are adapted in the second part of the Super Mario Land 4 manga. In the game events, Reticulon decides to attack the Earth, prompting the Federation Army to send the SolarStriker to take them down. Nothing much is known about them, apart from the names reported on the instruction manual.
In the manga, the Reticulon Army is mostly composed by starfighters piloted by the predominant species of Reticulon, anthropomorphic ducks and hawks, and some organic species like the Harriers and Rotomechs. While in the game, the leader of the army is the final boss, Quasi Obliterator, in the manga it is one of Bowser's personas: Torino Daiō. In terms of personality, they are all bellicose. During the story, Mario, who find himself piloting the SolarStriker only find himself in trouble only a couple of times: the first time against the first boss, Epikhan, since he was not provided with the floppy disk that activates the power up items dropped by the Power Pod (which, in the instruction manual are considered part of the enemy army, while in the manga are satellite created by the Federation); the second time is when Torino Daiō sends Blazers against the SolarStriker, even managing to hit it causing a breach that sucks out Marīo, Pichi-hime and Princess Peach. For the rest of the time, Mario has no trouble in taking down each member of the army. When he finishes Quasi Obliterator, the entire army (minus Bowser) is defeated, but Torino Daiō operates a holographic machine to trick Mario into having to redo the mission from scratch, projecting 3D images of his lost minions. After Torino Daiō's defeat, Bowser surrenders and gives up with his plan of conquering Earth, walking away.
