Princess Shroob is the main antagonist of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. She is second-in-command of the alien race known as the Shroobs (her older twin sister is the leader), although initially it appears that she is their leader, since the elder Princess Shroob was absent for most of the game, trapped in the Cobalt Star by Princess Peach. She and her sister set off a full invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom to make it their own.

Princess Shroob invades the Mushroom Kingdom in the past along with her sister, the Elder Princess Shroob, leaving their seemingly barren home world behind. After the Shroobs take hold of Peach's Castle, they find the adult Princess Peach, who had just used Prof. E. Gadd's time machine to visit the past castle. The Elder Princess Shroob attempts to capture her, but Peach uses the Cobalt Star that powered the time machine to imprison the Elder Princess Shroob before it shatters, and the shards are scattered across the Mushroom Kingdom. The younger Princess Shroob then ambushes and captures Peach. She sends Junior Shrooboid into the future via the time machine, where its appearance prompts the adult Mario and Luigi to investigate the past via newly-formed timeholes.

As the assembled baby and adult Mario Bros. ride aboard Baby Bowser's Koopa Cruiser, Princess Shroob is seen in a transmission, largely obscured by shadows. From the newly converted Shroob Castle, she fires a Shroob missile at the Koopa Cruiser, which was too low on ammo to shoot it down; the missile strikes the Cruiser and leads to a crash landing in Baby Bowser's Castle.

Later on, when the Mario Bros. enter the Koopaseum, Princess Shroob appears on stage and feeds Princess Peach to Petey Piranha in front of a crowd of laughing Shroobs. Princess Shroob then sends the Shrooboid Brat to fight the Bros. while she retreats; the quartet defeats the Shrooboid Brat, only for Princess Shroob to have a hole broken under them, and they fall into Gritzy Caves.

After encountering and defeating Petey Piranha, the Mario Bros. find "Peach", who has a Shroob mushroom attached to her face - unbeknownst to them, she is actually Princess Shroob in disguise. They take her back to Princess Peach's Castle in the future, where the adult Bowser arrives to kidnap her, unknowingly thwarting Princess Shroob's plan to take over the present-day Peach's Castle. Bowser brings her to Thwomp Volcano, where he is later fought and defeated by the Mario Bros.; the Shroob Mother Ship then arrives and takes the disguised Princess Shroob, with the Mario Bros. in pursuit. Princess Shroob finally reveals herself once they find her on the mother ship. As she and the Shroobs are poised to defeat them, she is suddenly blasted away by a disguised Kylie Koopa, who then accidentally activates an opening in the ground, causing her and the Bros. to fall from the mother ship. Kylie hangs on for a little while and eventually lands on Yoshi's Island, while the Bros. are dropped into Toad Town.
After the Mario Bros. assemble the rest of the scattered shards of the Cobalt Star, they eventually go through a Shroobified Peach's Castle. At the top of the highest tower, they hijack a Shroob Battleship and engage Princess Shroob aboard the Shroob Mother Ship, eventually downing it. After they return downstairs to examine the wreckage alongside Princess Peach, a furious Princess Shroob descends from the wreckage on a floating throne, declaring Peach useless and moving to finish the group off and take over the kingdom, shouting "Destroy!" as the Bros. prepare to battle her.

Upon defeating her, Princess Shroob lies battered on the floor as Princess Peach and the quartet of Mario Bros. spot the almost-whole Cobalt Star floating into the room. Princess Peach reveals that she has the final shard, and that she cannot let it be reassembled, confusing the adult Mario Bros.; Baby Bowser suddenly ambushes the group and snatches the shard, assembling the Cobalt Star despite Peach's protests. Princess Shroob then crawls into view, shouting that it is her sister's turn to defeat them now before her eyes go dim and she  explodes in a burst of sparks; the Cobalt Star then begins darting around the room before turning Baby Bowser into a Shroob Mushroom, and Princess Peach reveals the truth about the Star just before the Elder Princess Shroob regains her true form.
Battle
Princess Shroob starts the fight in her levitating throne, which will cause non-aerial attacks to miss. Her throne generates a forcefield that completely nullifies all damage, but can be slowly weakened with enough attacks, starting off blue before changing to green, yellow, and then red before shattering. The force field's durability is based off of the number of individual strikes rather than actual damage dealt, so multi-hitting attacks such as Copy Flowers and Trampolines are effective.
After Petey Piranha is defeated, the Mario Bros. encounter Peach, where she has a Shroob mushroom attached to her face, who is the Princess Shroob in disguise. They take her back to Princess Peach's Castle in the future. The adult Bowser arrives to kidnap her, believing she is Princess Peach, unknowingly saving the present Peach's Castle from domination by the Shroobs. Bowser brings her to Thwomp Volcano, and after he is defeated by the Mario Bros., the Shroob Mother Ship arrives and captures the disguised Princess Peach. The Mario Bros. follow the disguised Princess Peach into the Shroob Mother Ship, where Princess Shroob reveals herself. She and the Shroobs are poised to defeat them, but is suddenly blasted away by a disguised Kylie Koopa. The Bros. and Kylie Koopa eventually get dropped from the Shroob Mother Ship into Toad Town and Yoshi's Island respectively.

While in the forcefield, Princess Shroob has two attacks. The first is to shoot lasers at both of the Bros. at the same time. Depending on whether the laser gun is pointing up or down, Mario and Luigi must either jump or remain in place to avoid the lasers, which she shoots multiple times in one turn.
Princess Shroob can also attack using mechanical limbs sprouting from the underside of her throne. She will jump right above one of the Bros. and proceed to shoot multiple laser rings straight downward that will close on the Bro targeted. The Bro must jump over each ring as it closes, and failing to do so could cause the Trip status effect. After the laser rings, Princess Shroob uses the throne to try and crush the Bro directly, which can be countered with the hammer as the throne comes down. If Princess Shroob cackles before landing on the Bro, she will stall for a bit before landing on them, which can throw off the player's timing.

Once the Mario Bros. disable her forcefield, her throne crashes to the floor and Princess Shroob is forced to attack on foot, making her vulnerable to ground attacks again. During this phase, she uses two different attacks. One is summoning a star projectile that encircles the arena, which the Bros. must jump over. Princess Shroob will telegraph with her hand who the star will target next, and the star will travel faster and faster around the arena until a Bro is hit, or if they can successfully jump on the star to destroy it. This attack can cause random stat decreases, such as POW-Down, DEF-Down and SPD-Down. Princess Shroob can also teleport randomly around the room, firing various energy balls at the Bros:
After the Mario Bros. assemble the rest of the scattered shards of the Cobalt Star, they eventually go through a Shroobified Peach's Castle. At the top of the highest tower, they hijack a Shroob Battleship and engage Princess Shroob aboard the Shroob Mother Ship. After they down the Shroob Mother Ship and return downstairs, they witness Princess Shroob emerge from the wreckage. She is furious, declaring Peach useless, the kingdom hers, and the brother's dooms sealed, shouting "Destroy!" repeatedly. The group enters battle.

* If she spawns in front of a Bro, she will fire a single energy ball at that Bro which must be jumped over.
Princess Shroob fights initially from the protection of her levitating throne, bearing a force field that can be destroyed only by repeatedly jumping. The force field does two attacks each turn and regenerates from de-activation after two turns. Princess Shroob fires laser beams of varying heights. Princess Shroob also has an extended attack sequence that inflicts several status effects. The first part involves sprouting limbs from the throne, where she advances over a brother and fires laser rings directly downwards, which enclose from the outside, forcing rapid jumping to dodge. Failing to avoid this attack causes damage and the trip altered state. After the laser barrage, Princess Shroob has her throne attempt to crush the brother directly. She shakes the mech three times and then either laughs or goes down. If she laughs, the mech delays before dropping. The attack can be countered by the Hammer, and if unsuccessfully blocked causes dizziness.
* If she spawns in the center of the arena, she will launch a wave of energy balls which both Bros. must jump over.
* If she spawns on the top screen, she will launch an energy ball straight down, which can be countered with the hammer; If she throws with her right hand, it will target Mario, the left hand will target Luigi.

All of her energy ball attacks can inflict Poison if they hit, and can be safely stomped on. After 2 turns, the throne will repair itself and the forcefield will be reactivated. Once Princess Shroob has lost half of her health, she begins to glow red, indicating increases in both her speed and power, allowing her to attack multiple times in one turn.
Once the Mario Bros. destroy her throne, the Shroob Princess employs personal attacks. She always teleports wildly before acting. She can shoot a lone fast energy ball at one brother, stand in the middle of the room and shoot a storm of energy balls, or hover in the air and rain energy balls downwards. Princess Shroob's arm gestures telegraph which brother needs to dodge, either by jump or hammer. All her energy ball attacks can inflict Poison. Princess Shroob's final and most powerful attack is to launching an energy Star that encircles the arena, traveling faster and faster until it strikes a brother, which can cause random stat decrease, or is stomped on. It can alter its speed to catch the group off-guard. If she points straight forward, the star first attacks Mario; if she points downwards, it attacks Luigi. Once Princess Shroob has lost half of her health, she begins to glow red, attacking more frequently and with more power.
When the brothers defeat her, Princess Shroob lies battered on the floor. Baby Bowser meanwhile assembles the Cobalt Star using the last piece. As the star suddenly starts to shudder ominously, Princess Shroob crawls to the Mario Bros, and shouts that it is her sister's turn to defeat them now. She then explodes in a characteristic boss fight shower of sparks, as the Elder Princess Shroob gets freed.

In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, Princess Shroob makes a cameo appearance frozen next to the Elder Princess Shroob during the optional boss fight against the Shroobs in Bowser's Castle. This is different from the original game, where only the Elder Princess Shroob is barely seen. Princess Shroob is also mentioned in the Shroobs' profile from the Bowser Jr.'s Journey mode.

General information
Physical appearance
Compared to other Shroobs, Princess Shroob has a tall, human-like build, though keeping their general face features and two-fingered hands. Her mushroom cap has another, smaller one on top, looking like a bun hairstyle; the spot in the middle has the shape of a crown and a round black jewel on it. She also has large white lips and often carries a metal chalice with two horn-like protuberances at the base and round red gems around it. She wears a magenta dress similar to Peach's, with slightly darker panniers and a large high collar; the hem and the sleeves have a lighter swirl pattern, while on her chest is an oval shaped brooch with a black gem and a silver ring around it. She also wears small, round green earrings and long white gloves. She is also frequently seen holding a blue and yellow microphone with a cable that doesn't seem to be connected to anything.
Powers and abilities
Powers and abilities
As the commander of the Shroobs and one of the final bosses of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Princess Shroob is powerful and she often uses the Shroob army to her needs. By herself, she demonstrates various energy abilities, such as throwing energy balls, flying, and controling stars in her boss battle. Princess Shroob also shows technological skills via the use of her throne. In addition, she can disguise herself as Princess Peach to fool the characters, despite the disguise having a Shroob mushroom on her face.

Personality
Personality
As the primary antagonist of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Princess Shroob is a militant conqueror and is shown to be highly aggressive (e.g. shooting down the Koopa Cruiser), though most of her dialogue is undecipherable. In addition, the Shroob race acts as her loyal subordinates, serving her drinks and always following her commands. She is determined to go to any extent to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom, including attacking the Toad race, destroying their homes, and draining their life force, known as Vim. Furthermore, she takes sadistic enjoyment in the suffering of her enemies, as demonstrated by her act of feeding Princess Peach to Petey Piranha before an audience of Shroobs.
Being the primary antagonist of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Princess Shroob is a militant conqueror and is shown to be highly aggressive, despite her dialogue mostly being undecipherable. Several examples of her aggressive personality include shooting the Koopa Cruiser down and feeding Princess Peach to Petey Piranha as a source of entertainment to a Shroob audience. In addition, due to her status as the ruler, the Shroob race acts as her loyal subordinates, serving her drinks and always following her commands. She also takes revenge on Peach for capturing her twin sister and imprisoning her in the Cobalt Star by capturing her herself; prior to starting her battle with the Mario Bros., she states that Peach is "useless now", indicating that she had been using Peach for strategic reasons.

It is unclear whether or not Princess Shroob cares for her older sister; she did not attempt to rebuild the Cobalt Star the Elder Princess Shroob was trapped in, and referred to the Mushroom Kingdom as belonging to her rather than her sister.

Trivia
*In the North American version, when the player defeats Princess Shroob, the victory screen appears showing that no Experience Points or coins are awarded. In other versions, the battle screen immediately fades out to the field after the KO animation.
*Princess Shroob's three-legged throne that she uses in her boss battle resembles the Martians' fighting machines from the alien invasion novel The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, being a very tall walking tripod that shoots lasers. Her throne also floats and has a forcefield, similar to the fighting machines in the 1953 film adaptation of the novel.
