When activated, the player must locate Pixel Toad hidden somewhere in a stage. Once caught, a stamp of Pixel Toad is marked on the level that was played. 

In the [[Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (Nintendo Switch / Nintendo 3DS)|Nintendo Switch and Nintendo 3DS versions]] of the game, the ability to play Hide and Seek with Pixel Toad is unlocked in a level after beating it once; the Toad amiibo instead grants an [[Invincibility Mushroom]] when scanned.
