Their name comes from the name of chocolate balls known as {{wp|bonbon}}s, which Piranhabons slightly resemble, but they are modeled after [[Petey Piranha]]'s head (more so in [[List of Super Mario Sunshine pre-release and unused content#2002|early versions]]). Piranhabons roll along the ground, leaving behind a trail of goop as they do so. They run over [[Mario]] without stopping if he is in their way. If Mario sprays them with [[F.L.U.D.D.|FLUDD]], he can clean the goop off them, though they still leave goop behind as they travel. Piranhabons splatter on the ground when [[jump]]ed on, leaving behind a puddle of goop.

In ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]'', Piranhabons are mentioned briefly by [[icaruspedia:Viridi|Viridi]] during [[List of Palutena's Guidance conversations|Palutena's Guidance]] dialogue for Piranha Plant.
