There are 52 photographs to collect in Donkey Kong Country. Most are in hidden, but some are acquired from a Hand Slap or completing challenges at either Funky's Fishing and Candy's Dance Studio.
In Donkey Kong Country, they can be acquired by defeating certain enemy species with a Ground Pound or by finding them in hidden locations throughout the levels, as well as by completing challenges at Funky's Fishing and Candy's Dance Studio. Once collected, a photograph will appear somewhere in the scrapbook and will not be available to collect again. There are a total of fifty two photographs in the game.

There are 40 photographs in Donkey Kong Country 2. They do not appear until talking to Wrinkly Kong at Kong Kollege. Enemies with a photograph now have an icon of one above them. The player can use Banana Coins to purchase advice from Wrinkly on where to find them. Some photographs are rewarded for completing challenges at Funky's Flights II. One Hero Coin is given by Wrinkly Kong per every Scrapbook page filled.
In Donkey Kong Country 2, most photographs do not appear until the Kongs talk to Wrinkly Kong at Kong Kollege, who will likewise offer them tips on how to find these photographs. Once they do so, particular enemies in the game will display a camera icon floating above them, which signifies that defeating one such enemy will award the Kongs with a photograph. For each page the Kongs manage to fill with photographs in its entirety, they will be awarded with a Hero Coin by Wrinkly Kong.
