The '''Penguin Tour''' was the fifty-ninth tour of ''[[Mario Kart Tour]]'', which began on December 15, 2021 and ended on December 28, 2021. True to its name, the tour featured the return of various [[penguin]]-themed items, as well as introducing [[Penguin Mario|Penguin Toadette]] from ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe]]'' as a new power-up driver variant. Its Italian name, ''Tour Pinguotto'', particularly alludes to the recurring [[Penguin]] species in the ''[[Super Mario (franchise)|Super Mario]]'' franchise, encountered in this game as course obstacles; however, the Penguin Tour featured no course where such Penguins are found. Additionally, the tour also marked the debut of the second layout of the [[Tour Vancouver Velocity|Vancouver Velocity]] course, aptly named Vancouver Velocity 2.

This tour continued the Holiday Celebration event that started on the [[Holiday Tour (2021)|previous tour]], which, in addition of keeping the [[List of challenge cards in Mario Kart Tour#Holiday Challenges|Holiday Challenges]], featured better rewards on the [[#Token Shop|Token Shop]], which included High-End karts like the [[Sushi Racer]] and the [[Apple Kart]] and High-End gliders like the [[Cloud Glider]] and the [[Blizzard Balloons]], as well as introducing a light-blue-colored variant of [[Toad|Toad (Pit Crew)]] known as Light-blue Toad (Pit Crew), who was available as a reward for placing high in this tour's ranked cups. This tour featured the Snow Karts Pipe, which contained several karts related to snow and ice, including the new [[Frost Wing]] kart.

This tour's Coin Rush course was [[DS DK Pass]], which was reused from the [[Winter Tour (2019)|2019]] and [[Winter Tour (2020)|2020 Winter Tours]]. The menu's background featured the {{wp|2010 Winter Olympics cauldron}} under the aurora borealis as the landmark for this tour, which was reused from the [[Vancouver Tour]].

Starting from this tour, the [[Starry Great Sail]] glider is available in regular tour pipes, including the All-Clear Pipe.

This tour also introduced the first new [[Vs. Mega]] bonus challenge since the [[Snow Tour]] twenty-one tours prior and the first Vs. Mega bonus challenge since the [[Pirate Tour]] thirty-five tours prior to feature a new opponent, featuring [[Koopa Troopa]] as the opponent on [[N64 Koopa Troopa Beach]].

==Today's Challenge==
Players' most recently used kart and glider are chosen, and favourite and favored ones have extra priority. Opponents are arranged randomly. On day 1 of this tour, players finish a race in [[Merry Mountain]] in the [[Kamek Cup]] using [[Penguin Mario|Penguin Luigi]] for a free pipe launch. Starting from day 2, players have to finish a race in the earliest incomplete course that is not in any of the ranked cups using the driver shown on the course's thumbnail every day to obtain the corresponding reward in the table below. Once all of the courses are completed, the courses are selected at random.

*This was the first tour to use a new icon for a reused bonus challenge. The bonus challenge in the [[Dry Bowser Cup]], a [[Break Item Boxes]] challenge on [[N64 Kalimari Desert]], was the exact same as the bonus challenge in the [[Holiday Tour (2019)|2019 Holiday Tour]]'s [[Mario Cup]] and the [[New Year's 2021 Tour]]'s [[King Boo Cup]], except its icon showed a different perspective of the course that did not have a [[festive tree]] within frame.
