Like [[Prince Peasley]], their name comes from the {{wp|pea}}. Inhabitants of the [[Beanbean Kingdom]], they serve [[Queen Bean]] and appear in a variety of areas throughout the kingdom. This makes them similar to [[Toad (species)|Toad]]s from the [[Mushroom Kingdom]].

Many Peas appear in [[Beanbean Castle]]. During the events of the game, they are captured by [[Cackletta]] and [[Fawful]] and held in [[Beanbean Castle Sewer]] until they are rescued by [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]]. Fawful himself disguises as a Pea during the opening cutscene of the game, in which [[Birdo|Princess Peach]]'s voice is stolen. Though he wears similar clothing, he retains his glasses and grin.

After [[Mario]] and [[Luigi]] battle and defeat [[Queen Bean]] and head toward [[Chucklehuck Woods]], a Pea chases them to the bridge outside the castle and gives Mario the [[Bean Badge]], before offering a demonstration on how to equip badges. In the remake, the Chest of Knowledge room in Beanbean Castle contains four Peas that give tips to Mario and Luigi, replacing the room's books from the original game.
