Party Balls in the [[Super Smash Bros. (series)|''Super Smash Bros.'' series]] first appear in ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]'' and return in every following game, ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'', ''[[Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS]]'', ''[[Super Smash Bros. for Wii U]]'', and ''[[Super Smash Bros. Ultimate]]''. When thrown or attacked, they rise up and release items after a few seconds. Like the [[crate]], the Party Ball is a heavy item. Only very strong fighters, such as [[Donkey Kong]] or [[Bowser]], can walk with relative ease while carrying a Party Ball.

Party Balls have a 42% chance of releasing a random number of assorted items, a 36% chance of revealing exclusively [[List of Super Smash Bros. series items#Food|food]] items, and a 12% chance of dropping several [[Bob-omb]]s onto the battlefield (known as a "Bob-omb Fest"); the other 10% of the time, the Party Ball self-destructs. In ''Super Smash Bros. Brawl'', the Party Ball also has a chance of not releasing any items.

The Party Ball's first appearance in the [[Super Mario (franchise)|''Super Mario'' franchise]] outside of the ''Super Smash Bros.'' series is in ''[[Super Princess Peach]]'' as a semi-common object. It is depicted as a floating, yellow-spotted blue ball with a ribbon and wings. When [[Princess Peach|Peach]] finds one of these objects, she can open the Party Ball by using [[Perry]], or by throwing an object or enemy at it. Once opened, they release [[coin]]s (and occasionally, [[heart (item)|heart]]s and [[crystal (Super Princess Peach)|crystal]]s) to collect.

In an [[list of Super Princess Peach pre-release and unused content|early version]] of ''Super Princess Peach'', Party Balls had a slightly different design. They were originally less rounded at the bottom, and lacked wings.

Party Balls return in ''[[Yoshi's Crafted World]]''. Their design is based on a [[Piranha Plant]]. They appear in the level [[Jumping to Victory]]. Party Balls hang from the top of the screen, and can be used as platforms by [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshi]]. They come in two colors: red and blue. Red Party Balls contain objects such as [[Yoshi's Egg|egg]]s or [[coin]]s. Blue ones contain nothing and are mainly used as platforms. Party Balls sometimes move up and down. [[Spike the Piranha]] starts out as a red Party Ball.

A rare blue Party Ball costume can be randomly obtained at [[Acorn Forest]] for 200 Coins. No costume exists for a red one.
