The '''Old Letter''' is a [[letter]] written to [[Bobbery]] by [[Scarlette]] on her deathbed. She wrote the letter when she became ill while Bobbery was at sea. Scarlette gave it to [[Podley]] with instructions for him to pass it on to Bobbery should she die. Upon seeing how devastated Bobbery was by Scarlette's death, however, Podley could not bring himself to give it to him. When [[Mario]] visits Podley after being told by Bobbery to get lost, Podley explains to Mario the sad story of Bobbery. Regretting his decision not to give the letter to Bobbery when he had the chance, Podley gives it to Mario to let him handle the delivery. Mario gives the letter to Bobbery, who reads it to find that Scarlette's wish was not to blame himself for her death nor to give up sailing. This reinvigorates Bobbery to return to the sea, and he agrees to be the navigator for the [[S.S. Flavion]]. In other words, it was a letter of encouragement that Scarlette wrote to Bobbery before she passed away not to blame himself for her death.
