It features a library of [[Nintendo Entertainment System]] games, with some supporting online multiplayer, and some games having "special" versions, with players given advantages and/or skipped ahead to later levels. It was released at the launch of the [[Nintendo Switch Online]] service in North America on September 18, 2018 and in Japan, Europe and Australia on September 19, and later in Hong Kong and South Korea on April 23, 2019.

The application is exclusive to active subscribers of the Nintendo Switch Online membership; users can access these games as long as they have an active subscription, and must contact online at least once a week to continue to access them offline.
