The Nintendo Coin is a key item in Donkey Kong 64. It is a silver coin bearing the Nintendo 64 logo. The Nintendo Coin can be obtained by Donkey Kong playing the original Donkey Kong arcade game in Frantic Factory and winning it twice. The second playthrough replaces Pauline with the Nintendo Coin itself. Both the Nintendo Coin and the Rareware Coin are required to obtain the final Boss Key located behind a door in Hideout Helm.

After the player beats the old Donkey Kong arcade machine in Frantic Factory, Squawks the Parrot will appear and tell Donkey Kong to play the game again to win a special prize. After paying two coins, the player can use the arcade machine again. This time though, instead of rescuing Pauline, the player will humorously have to rescue the Nintendo Coin. The game's difficulty also increases, so the player must be extra careful.
