The '''New Year's Tour''' was the eighth tour of ''[[Mario Kart Tour]]'', which began on January 1, 2020 and ended on January 14, 2020. The tour celebrated the new year of 2020 and introduced a new variation of [[Tour Tokyo Blur|Tokyo Blur]] known as [[Tour Tokyo Blur|Tokyo Blur 2]], while also introducing a new variant of [[Mario]] in his {{wp|happi}} outfit from ''[[Super Mario Odyssey]]'' and [[Toad]] in a celebratory costume as spotlight characters. This tour also introduced [[Yoshi (species)|Red Yoshi]] as a new driver, as well as the R/T variants of [[SNES Mario Circuit 2]], [[3DS Toad Circuit]], and [[3DS Neo Bowser City]]. Similar to the [[festive tree]]s in the previous three tours, [[kadomatsu]] were added throughout many of the courses; hitting one with an item during a race granted "Happy New Year!" bonus points. The 10 daily log-in bonuses for this tour rewarded the player with 5 [[Ruby|rubies]] each day, for a total of 50 rubies. The trailer features a text different from the tour's name, with the trailer simply reading "2020". The menu's background featured {{wp|Mount Fuji}}, the {{wp|Tokyo Tower}}, and {{wp|Kaminarimon}} as landmarks for this tour.

===Signature kart sets===
Drivers with a corresponding cup in the tour were bumped one rank up in every course of their cup. Each one had a specific kart and glider pair that were also bumped one rank up, though these sometimes changed between tours. This was the last tour to use set karts and gliders.
