==Gameplay==
''NES Remix'' features challenges in settings from sixteen [[Nintendo Entertainment System]] games, some of which are from the ''Super Mario'' franchise. Examples include beating a stage from ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'' backwards as [[Luigi]], or playing ''[[Donkey Kong (game)|Donkey Kong]]'' as [[Link]]. During each stage, the player is given a certain number of hearts as "life"; if the player dies at any point in the game, they "Miss" and lose one heart. Losing all of them results in a game over. After clearing each stage, the player is given a ranking of one to three stars based upon their clear time; if the player clears in a low enough time, the three stars become rainbow stars. These stars are required to unlock the Remix levels.

The game featured [[Miiverse]] integration, in that players could share their level clear times with other players, and make posts to Miiverse which could be viewed and liked by other players in-game. The game also incorporates stamps; after clearing each level, the player is given a certain number of Bits based upon the conditions on which they cleared the stage, and collecting a certain number of Bits unlocks a stamp that represents a character or an item of the game. This would later be discontinued with the closure of the Miiverse service on November 7, 2017. Similarly, the player could quickly access the Nintendo eShop page for any of the games featured, before that service discontinued as well.

So it's especially cool to see Nintendo get behind a project like NES Remix, which both honors classic games and rips them apart. It’s a clever and challenging way to experience the classics without just retreading old ground. The possibilities for expanding the Remix series are so unbelievably great, too. I'm ready for the next batch now: Punch-Out!!, Kid Icarus and Metroid were cruelly ignored this time. And what about Super NES Remix? Game Boy Remix? Nintendo 64 Remix?!! But I digress.
