A Meteorite is an object found in the space. It makes a notable appearance in Super Mario Galaxy 2 as an item that Mario can use. These round meteorites are gold and has a spot, similar to those of Ground Pound Switches, that Mario can hit to shoot them out at certain target like walls and even bosses. To use a meteorite, Mario simply has to be attracted by the gravity force of the object to step on its surface and then perform a Ground Pound to shoot. Meteorites appeared first in Bowser's Lava Lair, where Mario used them specially in his fight against Giant Bowser. They later appeared in Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet and Bowser's Galaxy Generator serving the same purpose.

Meteorites appear in Super Mario Galaxy 2 as objects that Mario (or Luigi) can be launched at targets. These round meteorites are gold and have the Ground-Pound Switch symbol on them. The symbol on the meteorites is not emblazoned to the rocks themselves and therefore can move if the target moves (it always faces away from the target). Meteorites are located in Bowser's Lava Lair, Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet, and Bowser's Galaxy Generator. A meteorite can be used by jumping into the air near one, automatically attracting the player character via its gravitational pull. A meteorite can be launched toward a target if Mario performs a Ground Pound on it from a certain position. The first time meteorites are used is to break apart large stone locks blocking the way through giant doors in several Bowser levels. Meteorites are actually used during battles against Bowser to attack him. After taking four hits from a meteor, or eight hits in the final battle, Bowser is defeated. If a meteorite is not ground-pounded by Mario quickly enough during a Bowser battle, it will lose its golden color and turn black, after which it will crumble and disappear.
