'''Mertropolis''' is an underwater city, protected by a dome and filled with atmospheric air, featured in the ''[[The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3]]'' episode "[[The Ugly Mermaid]]." Though never stated outright, it is implied to be somewhere within [[Water Land]]. In the episode, [[Bowser|King Koopa]] plans to take over the city using his [[Doom Sub]], renaming it "Kooptropolis" before his plans are foiled by the Mario Bros.

Mertropolis is inhabited by mermaids with fish heads and human legs, and is ruled by [[King Mackerel]]. His daughter, [[Holly Mackerel]], is also featured prominently during its appearance. Since its residents are unable to breathe air, they wear water-filled fishbowls around their heads while in the city; yet, they panic when King Koopa attempts to flood it.

The town's name comes from a portmanteau of the words "merfolk" and "metropolis," a term for a big city.
