|tattle=This Koopa got a Mega Star. Now it's a mega problem. Don't look at it in 3-D, or it'll blow your mind!
|tippi=That's a Mega Koopa... Enemies don't get any bigger or more pixelated than this... Max HP is 1, Attack is 2, and Defense is 1. It's probably best if you avoid it, unless you can match its size... How did a Koopa Troopa grow to be so big...?

The Mega Koopa is a giant Koopa Troopa in Super Paper Mario that got a Mega Star.
The Mega Koopa is a giant Koopa Troopa in Super Paper Mario that got a Mega Star.

In Chapter 3-1, an ordinary Koopa Troopa sees Mario coming and obtains a Mega Star to stop him (using the same animations that any other character does when they use a Mega Star). Despite its size, it can be defeated by any non-jump attack (including hitting it with a normal-sized Koopa Shell), or the player can pick up the other Mega Star in the area and run into it.
In chapter 3-1, an ordinary Koopa Troopa saw Mario coming, so it ran for its life and hit a block containing the Mega Star and turned huge (using the same animations that any other character does when he or she uses a Mega Star). Mario or Princess Peach (Bowser and Luigi can also encounter it once they join the party later on) need to become giant by using a Mega Star to defeat the Koopa, but it can also be defeated by an explosion of Boomer, Bowser's fire breath, Luigi's Super Jump, picking it up and throwing with Thoreau, protection barriers by Barry, succumbing to the effects of a Catch Card SP or Items. If the player picks up the Mega Koopa it will hide in its shell and can be kicked before it gets out. Oddly enough, when looked at in 3D, the Mega Koopa is 3D instead of flat, though all "Mega" characters may have this characteristic.

If the player jumps on the Mega Koopa or picks it up with Thoreau, it will hide in its shell and can be kicked before it comes out. The shell will ricochet around the arena, dealing damage to the player until defeated.

Trivia
*This is perhaps the only occurrence of a regular enemy using a power-up item in a Mario game, though they were originally going to in another platformer, New Super Mario Bros..
*When the player receives 100 shop points, he or she is given a Catch Card of the Mega Koopa.
