The Mario Zone is located within a giant mechanical statue of Mario. Every stage takes place in a different part of the statue's "body." Stage one takes place in the statue's "shoe," within which are a plethora of gears and blades. Stage two takes place in the statue's "stomach." An area full of "stomach" bubbles (in fact, that is all it is; Mario must walk on these solid bubbles), cannonball-shooting pigs called Bomubomus, and angry teddy bears. Stage three takes place on the statue's "tongue."  The "tongue" is a mass of chains and mines and is one of the only levels with Bullet Bills (although the Torpedo Teds in the Turtle Zone act more like Bullet Bills). Stage four takes place in the statue's "hat" and resembles a castle of N&B blocks. The various enemies include pigs, toy soldiers, and block-impersonating jack-in-the-boxes. The boss(es) of this stage (and thus the zone) are The Three Little Pigheads.

Due to the stomach being placed near the crotch this lead to some stubborn gamers to think that the stomach bubbles were Mario's balls. It is unknown if Nintendo intended this or not.
