MarioWiki talk:Upcoming content

The Revision section should be updated, since using future tense to refer to content in upcoming games isn't allowed anymore. Maybe something else should be added that explains it isn't allowed as well. Also, this page still uses the term "beta elements" and those parts should either be reworded or have the term replaced. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 20:02, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
- "Features that were changed or dropped from an earlier build of the game are known as "beta elements"" - I think this is fine?
- It also already says not to use future tense. 20:05, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
- Since beta refers to a specific build, I feel this is misleading and could cause readers to think any early build of a game is a beta build, when MarioWiki:Good writing says that is not the case and that beta should not be used outside of actual confirmation of a build being the beta build. I also read the policy twice and could not find any mention of not using future tense, only that future tense should be changed to present tense after release, and I'd also like to note this policy hasn't been updated since that proposal passed. If we're thinking of the same thing, the part where it says "Statements like "[subject] may make an appearance in [future project]" are not allowed." only refers to not making speculatory statements about future games, not that future tense should not be used. -- Too Bad! - The manual of style has been updated in that regard though. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 20:28, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
- That good? 20:33, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
- I'd rather it be a separate note than a part of the post-release revision checklist, since future tense is not allowed regardless if the game was released or not. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 20:37, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
- Yeah, that looks good. I still feel something could be added about not using future tense, but since it's already in the Manual of Style it's not a big deal. -- Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 20:38, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
- From Bye Guy's proposal: "Lead paragraphs that refer to a game as "upcoming" are free to stay, as this is the most simple way to state that the game is not released yet". I had some trouble finding a proper wording, though. 20:48, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
- Also, according to our current rules, "cancelled" should be spelled as "canceled." Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 23:16, June 8, 2019 (EDT)
