The '''mandrake''' (originally localized as '''Nasty Garlic''') is an uprooted and brown root with a sour face and a peculiar body shape that first appears in ''[[WarioWare: Touched!]]'' It is based on the poisonous {{wp|Mandrake#Magic and witchcraft|real-life plant of the same name}} that, according to legend, shrieks when dug up and kills anyone that hears it.

The Nasty Garlic first appears in ''WarioWare: Touched!'' in [[Wario-Man]]'s story. When [[Wario]] feels sick, he goes to the fridge and tries to get some [[garlic]] to cure his sickness. Though he accidentally grabs the Nasty Garlic, he eats it anyway. The Nasty Garlic causes Wario's immune system to attack the [[Awful Virus]]es (where the player can tap the Awful Viruses and get the [[Wario Virus]]es to eat them), which then causes Wario to turn into Wario-Man. Once Wario-Man's story is completed, the player can drag the Nasty Garlic to Wario and turn him into Wario-Man in the main menu to play his [[microgame]]s. Wario can return back to normal by being fed a [[Bomb (WarioWare series)|bomb]]. If the player drags the Nasty Garlic to anyone else, they get confused instead.

 

A similar-looking, root-like object appears in the opening cutscene of [[Ashley]] & [[Red (WarioWare series)|Red]]'s stage, as one of the four ingredients that has to be dragged into Ashley's pot. Like the Nasty Garlic, this object has roots shaped like a body and an annoyed expression with puckered lips on its bulb, but the bulb is yellow instead of brown.

In ''[[WarioWare Gold]]'', the incident from ''WarioWare: Touched!'' is referenced when [[Ashley]] brings similar supposed garlic to the Potluck Gang. [[Red (WarioWare series)|Red]] worriedly identifies it as mandrake root and warns that its cry can be fatal, prompting [[Dribble & Spitz|Spitz]] to cry like a mandrake as a prank, terrifying Red. If the player fails a microgame in this stage, the following card shows a mandrake. In addition, it is a subject of the [[List of WarioWare Gold souvenirs#Minigames|souvenir minigames]] [[Pumpkin Panic]] and [[Root Awakening]].

In Ashley's story in ''[[WarioWare: Get It Together!]]'', several mandrakes invade [[Ashley's Mansion|her mansion]] while she waits for dinner. When they attack her, she turns them into food. The majority of them are turned into donuts. Mandrakes appear in the microgames [[The Vampire Arose]] and [[Veggie Out!]] A mandrake root appears as a [[Prezzy]] and in one of [[Pyoro]]'s character gallery images.

 

In ''[[WarioWare: Move It!]]'', a mandrake appears in the Remix 1 story. Ashley, [[Dr. Crygor]], and [[Penny]] use it as part of an experiment. After it is dropped into a container, several explosions cause the cottage to shake.
