|tattle=That's Magnus Von Grapple. It's a giant robot built by the X-Nauts. Lord Crump drives it. Max HP is 30, Attack is 2, and Defense is 1. Its most effective attack is one that takes advantage of its size: a smothering stomp. It can also shoot out its fists, which do these super-gnarly rocket punches. Its fists have Max HP of 2, an Attack of 4, and Defense of 0. Its fists are super-powerful, so it's best to knock them down fast. The thing about this robot is I can't tell if it looks cool, or really, REALLY stupid...

Magnus von Grapple is a robot operated by Lord Crump in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. He is the boss of Boggly Woods. Magnus is fought after Mario and the Punies confront Crump at the entrance to the woods; he climbs into Magnus von Grapple and attacks them. His attacks include randomly stomping on top of Mario and his partners, firing his rocket punch, and stomping the ground to create an earthquake.

Magnus von Grapple (referred to as simply Magnus in battle and in the Tattle Log) is a robot operated by Lord Crump in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and its Nintendo Switch remake. It serves as the boss of Chapter 2.
History
Magnus von Grapple is activated by Lord Crump in the Great Tree after he is cornered by Mario, his partners, and the Puni elder, and forced to deactivate the time bomb which he had previously activated. After being defeated in battle by Mario and his party, Magnus von Grapple explodes, forcing Lord Crump and the X-Nauts whom he brought with him to retreat and allowing Mario to claim the Emerald Star, which Crump had stolen. Later, when Mario and his partners arrive in the X-Naut Fortress, Crump utilizes an upgraded version of the robot known as Magnus von Grapple 2.0.

Battle
Magnus von Grapple's first attack is "Magnus von Punish"; that is, walking up to the party, raising its foot and moving it back and forth over them as if choosing its target, then stomping down on a party member, which deals two points of base damage. It will use this attack on its first turn, and on its every subsequent turn afterwards until its HP reaches twenty.

After its HP reaches twenty, Magnus von Grapple uses its turn to separate its hands from the rest of its body, causing them to hover using thrusters in front of it in the form of two X-Fists, each of which, on their turns, flies into a party member in one of two possible trajectories, dealing four points of base damage. If both X-Fists are defeated, a new pair will return to Magnus von Grapple's arms at the beginning of its second turn afterwards, potentially allowing it to release them again immediately. Notably, the X-Fists are guaranteed to be removed from battle by Flurrie's Gale Force with a perfect action command.

While the X-Fists are independent enemies with 2 HP each, Magnus von Grapple can only attack by jumping in place and then rapidly stomping the ground repeatedly, shaking it and dealing two points of base piercing damage to both Mario and his partner (other than Flurrie, who is unaffected due to floating above the ground). In the original Nintendo GameCube version, the damage is dealt while Magnus von Grapple is stomping the ground; in the Nintendo Switch remake, Magnus von Grapple jumps in place one more time after stomping the ground, dealing the damage as it does so. Additionally, in the Japanese version of the Nintendo GameCube game, this attack cannot be Superguarded.

After a new pair of X-Fists returns to Magnus von Grapple, it has, every turn until it releases them, a 60% chance to use Magnus von Punish and a 40% chance to release its X-Fists again.

In this battle, the audience consists of Punies and X-Nauts, with the former initially taking up the left half of the seats, and the latter initially taking up the right half.

In Mario's hunt for the Crystal Stars, the second star, the Emerald Star, is hidden in The Great Tree of Boggly Woods. The X-Nauts, led by Lord Crump, are already there searching for the star when Mario arrives. Crump allows Mario to find the Crystal Star, and then steals it from him after Mario discovers it at the bottom of the Tree with the help of the Punis. Mario confronts Crump, whom threatened to destroy the Tree with a time bomb. Mario pursues him to the tree's entrance, where he finds Crump being attacked by the Puni Elder. The Elder's forcing Crump to deactivate time bomb, but he refuses to hand the Emerald Star over. He instead activate Magnus von Grapple and attacks Mario and his party. Magnus fires its rocket punch at Mario, stomps on him, and even stomping ground to creates earthquakes, but Mario prevails over the robot and claims the Crystal Star. The X-Nauts scientist later build a new robot named Magnus von Grapple 2.0, which is much more powerful than its predecessor.

Magnus von Grapple is able to fire both its rocket puncher off and use them as a weapon. When launched, the fists have a HP of two and an attack power of four. Magnus's main attack is to stomp on Mario and his friends, which does only two damage to them. Another of its attacks is to create an earthquake, two damage as well.

After the destruction of Magnus von Grapple, the X-Nauts PhD construct the improved version: Magnus von Grapple 2.0. This robot is much stronger than the first one and has attacks such as a Drill attack, a flying disk, and a Rapid Fire cannon, but Mario is able to defeat the upgraded robot as well.
