Magnus von Grapple is activated by Lord Crump in [[the Great Tree]] after he is cornered by [[Mario]], [[Party member#Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door|his partners]], and the [[Puni elder]], and forced to deactivate the time bomb which he had previously activated. After being defeated in battle by Mario and his party, Magnus von Grapple explodes, forcing Lord Crump and the [[X-Naut]]s whom he brought with him to retreat and allowing Mario to claim the [[Emerald Star]], which Crump had stolen. Later, when Mario and his partners arrive in the [[X-Naut Fortress]], Crump utilizes an upgraded version of the robot known as [[Magnus von Grapple 2.0]].
