'''Lunge Fish''' are [[List of enemies|enemies]] introduced in ''[[Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]''. These large, bucktoothed {{iw|wikipedia|catfish}} are predators of [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshis]], whom they try and swallow whole. Its name is a portmanteau of "lunge" and "{{iw|wikipedia|lungfish}}".

Lunge Fish are enemies in ''[[Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island]]'' and [[Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3|its remake]]. They hide in the water and will lunge at Yoshi as he passes by, as their name implies. Occasionally, a Lunge Fish will stick its head out of the water. Yoshi can then throw an [[Yoshi's Egg|egg]] at the fish to momentarily stun the creature, or he can defeat one outright by spitting an enemy out at it. If Yoshi falls in the water, a Lunge Fish will attempt to swallow Yoshi and Baby Mario whole similar to how a [[Big Cheep Cheep|Boss Bass]] does.

Lunge Fish are enemies in ''[[Yoshi's New Island]]''. They appear prominently in the level [[Lose the Lunge Fish]]. Unlike before, a Lunge Fish's behavior is a [[Cheep Chomp|Boss Bass]]-esque leaping instead of lunging-while-inhaling action, showing off their entire bodies. However, they still function in the same pattern as before, sinking below the water before rising up and forwards in a jerky arc.

They act as they do in ''Yoshi's New Island'', but are larger and move through the air slower.
