List of Super Mario World (television series) songs
The following is a list of the various songs featured in the Super Mario World animated series.[1] In all, there are fourteen songs, one for each episode plus the theme song. Each song corresponds to the theme of the episode. For example, in "The Yoshi Shuffle", the theme for the episode is football, so the song that corresponds to that episode is about fighting to the finish. Unlike the predecessors, which featured covers of licensed music, no songs on the Super Mario World cartoon were changed or removed due to copyright restrictions, since they were all written (and some parodied) exclusively for the show. All songs were composed by Michael Tavera and Monroe Michaels.[2]
The Italian dub uses instrumentals of all of the songs except Kootie Pie Rap and Cheatsy's Life, which are translated; the Brazilian dub translates all songs with the exception of the intro theme, Tail of the Dinosaur and Looking for You; the Hungarian dub uses the instrumental versions for Motor City, At the Circus, Time to Run, and Time to Get Wild; and the Latin American Spanish and Romanian[3] dubs translate Kootie Pie Rap, while all others dubs leave the songs in English. The Korean dub, while still leaving the songs in English (except for the second part of Rah-Rah, which uses the instrumental), has Korean subtitles on-screen.
Theme song[edit]
This is the opening theme to the animated series. The lyrics and melody of the theme song were written by Mark Mothersbaugh. An instrumental version is used as the credits theme. However, early German broadcasts used the intro with the German translation of The Mario Rap from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! instead.[4]
Super Mario. Super Mario. Super Mario WORLD!
(In the background, repeated: Super Mario.)
Super Mario World!
It's a blast from the past.
In Super Mario World
you've got to move fast.
Mario and Luigi
are doin' what they can.
Yoshi and the Princess
are givin' them a hand.
Super Mario WORLD!
(In the background, repeated: Super Mario.)
Super Mario World!
It's a blast from the past.
In Super Mario World
it's a blast!
Super Mario WORLD!
Kootie Pie Rap[edit]
In the episode "Fire Sale", Kootie Pie Rap is the song sung by Mama Fireplant after she is captured and imprisoned by Kootie Pie Koopa in the Koopaling's ice palace.
Kootie Pie rap!
Kootie Pie rap!
People be cold unless they buy
Their fire from a creep called Kootie Pie
Kootie Pie rap!
Kootie Pie rap!
She doesn't care if you freeze like ice
She's one bad lady and she ain't very nice
Kootie Pie rap!
Kootie Pie rap!
Kootie Pie, Kootie Pie, you're such trash
The two things you love are yourself and cash
Kootie Pie rap!
Kootie Pie rap!
She's got me trapped - oh my, oh my
I gotta get away from Kootie Pie
She's thinks she's got me, but I think not
I'm gonna make this place get really hot
Kootie Pie rap!
Kootie Pie rap!
Kootie Pie!
Motor City[edit]
In the episode "The Wheel Thing", while Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and the Cave People try to stop King Koopa and Kooky von Koopa from rampaging through Dome City in the Mega Mechanasaur, the 50's style song Motor City is played. (Note: This is the only song from the Super Mario World TV series to have its instrumental used to dub over cover songs in re-airings of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!; all others are from The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3.)
The instrumental was played in place of the first instance of "Surfin' Bird" in "The Bird! The Bird!", "Chains" in "Stars in Their Eyes", "Hot Hot Hot" in "Too Hot to Handle", "I Got You (I Feel Good)" in "Bad Rap", "Rock Around the Clock" in "Elvin Lives", and "Kung Fu Fighting" in "Karate Koopa".
Everything is ready, put the pedal down (Bup, bup!)
Motor, City, here we come!
I got the fastest set of wheels in town (Bup, bup!)
Motor, City, here we come!
The road is empty, every light is green (Bup, bup!)
Motor, City, here we come!
Nobody could stop this awesome machine
Motor, City, here we come! (Yeah!)
Rev it up!
Just a little bit faster
Rev it up!
Just a little bit faster
Go, go, going
To Motor City! (Yeah!)
Motor, City, here we come (Motor City!)
Motor, City, here we come (Motor City!)
Rev it up!
At the Circus[edit]
In "Send in the Clown", while Mario is looking for an item to aid his friends, who have been captured by King Koopa and Big Mouth Koopa, he rushes through Neon Castle. While he is being chased by dozens of enemies, At the Circus plays in the background; it is a parody of "This Is It", the theme song of The Bugs Bunny Show.
When they raise the tents and light the lights (Bingo!)
We will see the most amazing sights (Yes!)
First the maestro will strike up the band (Wow!)
For the finest circus in the land
Spotlights shine and people start to cheer (Hahahaha!)
Fireworks light up the sky
We're gonna see the greatest show in the world
At the circus toni-ah-ight (Yeah!)
(entire song repeated twice)
Wizard[edit]
In "Ghosts 'R' Us", Yoshi, while searching the haunted house for the captured Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Oogtar, is chased by a gang of ghosts consisting of a Big Ghost and several Ghosts while the song Wizard plays. This is a parody of Thriller.
You walk on tiptoes
Afraid of every sound
You can't believe it
This house is filled with fear
The creeping shadows
Follow you somehow
Look, there's a monster
He's after you right now
There's a wizard…here tonight
Don't walk into the darkness or some evil thing might grab us
There's a wizard…here tonight
Just hope that we can get out of this haunted house of fright night
Wizard!
Rockin' With the Sleigh Bells[edit]
While rushing through Neon Castle searching for Oogtar in "The Night Before Cave Christmas", Mario and Yoshi evade dozens of enemies, all the while Rockin' With The Sleigh Bells plays in the background. It is based on both the Brenda Lee song "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" and the Bobby Helms song "Jingle Bell Rock".
(Yeah, we're back!) (Rockin'!)
(Oh yeah!) (We're ready everybody!) (Yeah, here we go!)
Rockin' with the sleigh bells, the whole night through
Nothing could be nicer than being with you (Yeah!)
Everyone is dancing, the music's so fine
Keep rockin' with the sleigh bells
Have a swinging time! (Yeah!)
(above verse repeated)
Rockin' with the sleigh bells all night and day
Feel the gentle rhythm, swing and sway
Jingle bells are ringing, we're feelin' okay (Yes!)
Keep rockin' with the sleigh bells
Happy holiday!
Yeah!
Time to Run[edit]
In "King Scoopa Koopa", after the Cave People, who have been mutated into Chickadactyls, attack them, Mario and Princess Toadstool try to escape them using the Star Path, all the while Time to Run is sung.
When darkness rains down from the sky
And you don't know where to turn
Just say the word and leave tonight
As we watch our bridges burn
Just follow me, don't be afraid (Keep running! Keep on running!)
No matter what we face!
Just take my hand and hold on tight (Keep running! Keep on running!)
Together we'll finish the race!
Right now, it's do or die (Keep running! Keep on keep on running!)
(all lyrics above repeated)
So don't look back
Now it's time to run (Keep running! Keep on keep on running!)
Right now, we're under a gun (Keep running! Keep on running!)
So don't look back, now it's time to run!
Time to Get Wild[edit]
In "Born to Ride", Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool and Yoshi, after narrowly escaping a gang called the Dino Riders, find themselves caught-up in a motorcycle race against the gang while Time to Get Wild plays. It is based on the Steppenwolf song "Born to Be Wild."
(Come on, buddy!)
(Yeah!) (Haha!) (Hahaaa!)
Time to get moving (Yeah, moving!)
Moving on out now!
Time to kick it out now!
Rev up the engine
Leave it all behind us!
We can do anything we want to
Just tell us where you wanna be!
Time to get wild!
Get wild! (Heheheh!)
Time to get wild! (Get wild, man!)
Cruising to a clifftop
Yeah, right into the edge now!
Rev up the engines
You're lookin' down to fly now!
Time to get wild!
Get wild! (Hahaha!)
Time to get wild!
Get wild! (Hahaha!)
Time to get wild!
Get wild! (Hahaha!)
Time to get wild!
Get wild!
Listen to the Grapevine[edit]
In "Party Line", while the Cave People are distracted by their new phones, Mario is forced to defend Dome City from the evil dinosaur, while Listen to the Grapevine plays. It is based on the Marvin Gaye song "I Heard It Through the Grapevine."
If you really want to know everything I stole
Why not just put a shell up next to your ear?
You can get the latest word
On anything you might've heard
The vine'll tell you what you need to hear
You don't need to scream or shout (Hey!)
You'll know what it's all about! (Yeah!)
Just listen to the grapevine
Everybody!
Listen to the grapevine
Can you do it? (Yeah!)
(all lyrics above repeated)
Everbody's feelin' fine
Honey, honey!
Everybody's on my line!
Just listen to the grapevine
Listen!
Cheatsy's Life[edit]
In "Gopher Bash", after successfully stealing all the food of the Cave People, Cheatsy Koopa begins to sing a self-praising song called Cheatsy's Life, with his Gopher minions singing backup. Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi finish the song off.
CHEATSY KOOPA: Oh, when Koopa sees a chance for some real mischief,
When there's the blackest of evil to be done
He smiles and then says, "Cheatsy, just go to it"
And Cheatsy's life becomes a lot of fun (Fun!)
GOPHERS: Oh, when there's underhanded evil to be done (To be done!)
Then Cheatsy's life becomes a lot of fun (Lots of fun!)
CHEATSY KOOPA: If you want to cheat a family of their mortgage
If you want to put some grandma on the street (Put her down!)
Then I'm the one that has the plan, I know how to do it
Oh, Cheatsy's got the schemes that can't be beat
GOPHERS: Oh, when there's underhanded evil to be done (To be done!)
Then Cheatsy's life becomes a happy one (Happy one!)
CHEATSY KOOPA: If the idea is to take someone's life savings (Take em!)
If you wanna steal a little boy's last dime
Then I'm the one that you should all be calling
I'll do the job no matter what the crime
MARIO, LUIGI, AND YOSHI: When there's something really rotten to be done (To be done!)
Then Cheatsy's life becomes a worthwhile one (Worthwhile one!)
That's Cheatsy's life!
Tail of the Dinosaur[edit]
In "Rock TV", after being forced into a wrestling ring by King Koopa, Mario and Luigi are forced to battle the monstrous Tyrannosaurus Twins, while Tail of the Dinosaur plays.
We’re gonna jump higher that ever before
Reach for the top of the sky (Reach!)
Gonna cheer for the winner
Yell for more (Oh yeah, more!)
Right now it's do or die!
Ready! (Ready, Ready)
Ready to go!
Ready for a TKO! (Yes!) (Yeah!)
Ready! (Ready, Ready)
Ready to go!
Gonna wag the tail
Of the dinosaur! (A, ha, ha, big ol' tail!)
Gonna wag the tail
Of the dinosaur! (A, ha, ha! Hahahaha!) (Yay!)
Rah-Rah[edit]
In "The Yoshi Shuffle", while playing a football game against Bully, Cheatsy and Big Mouth Koopa, Mario and Yoshi struggle to attain victory while the song Rah-Rah is sung in the background.
- Part 1
Gonna sing the song with spirit
Shout the home team cheer
Let's lift our voices high, high, high
So everyone will hear (Yeah!)
And until the game is over (Pay the fat lady!)
This is what we'll do (So this is what we're gonna do!)
So fight, fight, fight
Fight to the finish
We're all for you! (Yeeha!)
So fight, fight, fight
Fight to the finish
We're…all for…you! (Yes!) (Woo-hoo!)
- Part 2
Fight, fight, fight
Fight to the finish
We're all for you! (Yeeha!)
So fight, fight, fight
Fight to the finish
We're…all for…you! (Yes!)
Rockin' the High School[edit]
In the episode "A Little Learning," after Hip and Hop Koopa's volcano project in the science fair for school goes out of control, the lava flow from it threatens to destroy Dome City with Rockin' the High School playing. It is a parody of the Ramones song "Rock 'n' Roll High School."
The temperature's risin', it's gettin' hot
Rock, rock, rockin' the high school!
The boys are comin', ready or not
Rock, rock, rockin' the high school!
One big tree's gonna steal the show!
Goin' down easy, gonna swallow you whole
We can't stop em now
It's gonna explode (Gonna explode!)
We're rockin' the high school, yeah!
Rock, rock, rockin' the high school!
Yeah, rockin' the high school (Boom!) (Yes!)
Rock, rock, rockin' the high school!
One big tree's gonna steal the show! (Yeah!)
Goin' down easy, gonna swallow you whole
We can't stop em now cause it's gonna explode
That's right, it's gonna explode
Rock, rock, rockin' the high school
Agh!
Looking for You[edit]
In "Mama Luigi", as Mario and Luigi try to illuminate Neon Castle's dark basement, the recently hatched Yoshi wonders away into the bowels of the castle, with a frantic Mario and Luigi chasing after him as Looking for You plays.
First you're here, and then you're not
You never seem to stay in one spot
I'm looking, looking
Looking for you!
I try to keep up as best I can
I wanna be there if you need a hand
I'm looking, looking
Looking for you!
I'm just one step behind
Oh, why are you so hard to find?
I’ve looked high and I’ve looked low
Y'know that everywhere I go
I'm looking, looking
Looking for you!
Looking, looking
Looking for you!
Looking, looking
Looking for you!
