A Light Block (also known as a Glow Block) is an item found in the game New Super Mario Bros. Wii and New Super Mario Bros. U. They are white blocks with eyes similar to Rotating Blocks from Super Mario World. As the name suggests, these blocks emit light that Mario and the other characters can use to illuminate dark areas. The characters must carry them in order to explore different areas with the help of the block's light. To pick up a Light Block, the player must shake the wii and press and hold wii at the same time. Light Blocks are only present in dark and murky areas such as caves or Ghost Houses. They can also be used as a projectile, by throwing it to the enemies, in similar fashion to Super Mario Bros. 2s physics.

Light-Up-Lifts, originally known as Light Blocks, are block-like platforms in the Super Mario series that debuted in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They occur in underground caves and illuminate the surrounding area when a nearby ? Switch is struck. Light-Up-Lifts are similar to Glow Blocks, identical-looking items also introduced in New Super Mario Bros. Wii that the player character can carry with them.

History
Light Blocks also appear in Mario Party 10 in the minigame Murky Maze.
Super Mario series
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Light Blocks are encountered in 5 only. They appear as moving nearly invisible blocks at first (which look similar to Empty Blocks from Super Mario World), but if Mario or any other character hits a nearby ? Switch, the blocks temporarily glow and keep moving. These blocks can be used for both lighting the way and means of transportation.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
In addition to normal-sized Light Blocks, bigger moving varieties also appear. These blocks appear as moving nearly-invisible blocks at first (which look similar to Empty Blocks from Super Mario World), but if Mario or any other character hits a nearby ? Switch, the blocks temporarily glow and keep moving. These blocks can be used for both lighting the way and means of transportation.
Light Blocks are objects in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. They appear in Light Blocks, Dark Tower and retain their function from New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

In New Super Luigi U, Light-Up-Lifts appear only in Light-Up-Lift Tower, introducing their current name.
In New Super Mario Bros. U, only the bigger varieties appear, and act as in the Wii version as platforms, but still illuminate dark areas. Some are activated by pressing a ? Switch. They mostly appear in Light Blocks, Dark Tower.

Minecraft
*Trading Card description: "Don't get caught in the dark without a Glow Block! These white boxes are found on the ground in dark areas, like caves and haunted spots. This illuminating item will help guide you when visibility is low. Just remember that you can't use other weapons, like fire or ice balls, while holding a Glow Block."
In the Super Mario Mash-up in Minecraft, Redstone Lamps are replaced by Light-Up-Lifts.
