| A Life-Up Heart is a power-up item that appears in Super Mario Odyssey. It is the only "traditional" power-up in the game, as for the most part Mario gains additional powers through Cappy's Capture ability, and the game does not have lives. It serves the same function as the Life Mushroom from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2: When collected, it increases Mario's maximum health to six (nine in Assist Mode); however, if his health is depleted back to three (six in Assist Mode), he loses the three extra pieces of health until another Life-Up Heart is obtained. While Mario's life meter is not at maximum health, a second Life-Up Heart refills his health. If the player collects a Life-Up Heart at maximum health, it grants 10 coins instead. Life-Up Hearts can be won from the minigame Slots, and found in treasure chests, ? Blocks, or various other areas. Only one Life-Up Heart appears in 2D: In the Metro Kingdom's Projection Room, the 2D Life-Up Heart is found where the Hidden Block that contained a 1-Up Mushroom is in World 1-1 in Super Mario Bros.

Life-Up Hearts can be purchased from the Crazy Cap store for 50 regular coins, and won from slot minigames. One can be found inside a ? Block in New Donk City, before the Mechawiggler boss fight. |
| Life-up Hearts can be purchased from any Crazy Cap store for 50 regular coins. They do not sell Mario a Life-Up Heart if he already has six health points. The item is treated as though it were already purchased. Purchasing a Life-Up Heart leads to the cutscene for boosting Mario's maximum HP even if a prior Life-Up Heart is still in effect. Additionally, as per that cutscene, the shop menu is closed after Mario buys a Life-Up Heart.
