'''Leaf piles''' are elements commonly found in autumn-themed stages within the ''[[Mario (franchise)|Mario]]'' and ''[[Donkey Kong (franchise)|Donkey Kong]]'' franchises. Their most common role is to release an item when interacted with in a certain way.

In ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'', leaf piles appear on the [[Gold Leaf Galaxy]]'s starting planet. When [[Mario]] or [[Luigi]] [[spin]]s on a leaf pile, it gives three [[Star Bit]]s or a single [[coin]].

Leaf piles appear in the ''[[Mario Kart Wii]]'' course [[Wii Maple Treeway|Maple Treeway]], in its remakes in ''[[Mario Kart 7]]'', ''[[Mario Kart Tour]]'' and ''[[Mario Kart 8 Deluxe]]'', and in the autumn variation of the ''[[Mario Kart 8]]'' and ''Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'' course [[Animal Crossing]]. They act similarly to [[crate]]s, disappearing when hit by an item or racer and dispensing [[Banana]]s, [[coin]]s, [[Dash Mushroom|Mushroom]]s, and, occasionally, [[Super Star]]s. Unlike crates, however, leaf piles do not slow racers down when they hit them. They reappear a short amount of time after being hit. In time trials, they remain in their usual locations but do not dispense any items.

Large leaf piles appear in the ''[[Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze]]'' level [[Horn Top Hop]].<ref>Knight, Michael. ''Donkey Kong Country Returns'' PRIMA Official Game Guide. Page 70. "''When you reach point 8, perform a Roll Attack to scatter the pile of leaves.''"</ref> The [[Kong]]s can stand and walk on top of them as on ground, but [[Roll Attack|rolling]] into one causes it to scatter, which most commonly releases an item such as a banana or a [[Banana Coin]]. One pile in particular hides a horn that releases a [[Pointy Tucks]] and a [[Puzzle Piece (Donkey Kong Country series)|Puzzle Piece]] in an alternative fashion when uncovered.
