Lava Geysers appear in Super Mario Galaxy in various magmatic locations, often appearing in clusters. They are most prominent in the Melty Molten Galaxy, where several appear near the starting position.
Lava Geysers appear in Super Mario Galaxy, where there are two types. Aside from the normal vertical-erupting type which appears commonly in lava areas, there is a less-common looping type which looks and acts similar to the lava bursts found in the same places. Unlike the lava bursts, these are much longer (resembling comets), composed of viscous lava, and always travel in full circles even while under the lava; the lava bursts, by contrast, can have varying trajectories and disappear immediately upon landing. There can be one or three of these Lava Geysers per loop, depending on the loop's size, and they have slightly different appearances and properties from each other.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Lava Geysers reappear with the same behavior as in the predecessor. They first appear on the lava planet in the Freezy Flake Galaxy, where they can destroy the rolling snowballs and the paths over the lava they create. They also appear prominently on the first planet of the Shiverburn Galaxy and the final stretch of Bowser's Galaxy Generator.
In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Lava Geysers reappear both in the vertical and looping types. The looping types now always has three per loop, can also appear in varying sizes, and is often seen free-floating rather than exclusively appearing from the lava.
